I believe that Ursa killed Azulon that's why she left, and Azula knew. Maybe she overheard that Azulon was going to hurt Zuko.

You know he right have a feeling he going to start his own group maybe at the end he might be the one to end the war I mean he does care for the people and seeing the earth kingdom losing there men he might start to think that the war was a bad idea if the avatar does mange to beat the fire lord it want mean the war will be over there be some one in that place so why not have zuko take the throned and bring peac to the world along with anang help zuko the fire lord.

revalation. The knife Zuko gave to the boy was the same knife he used to cut his pony tail off in the avatar state. Any thoughts.
I like how inatimate objects are spiraled in at later eppisodes. What great writing.

Now that I think about it, I agree that Zuko's mother might have killed his grandfather: when she went to go see Zuko before she disappeared, she paused and slightly looked back and you could hear what sounded like weapons and guards coming closer.?? Like someone was coming after her.?? That's a bit odd if she was willingly taking Zuko's place. And so was her having to hurry in saying her goodbyes.?? Afterall, you would think they would have given her time (whether she told Zuko??where/why she was going) or not.

It all kinda adds up: Azula teasing Zuko, their mother came and got her.?? She would have had time to tell her mother then that Zuko was suppose to be killed and she could probably wore the black hood to cover herself up so she could kill him. Then she says her goodbye to Zuko and flees.

I think Azula knew what happened (after all, she's got s nack for spying) if she didn't play a hand in the whole thing as it was suggested.?? (I.E.: She was actually the one that was suppose to die, therefore, she lied and said it was Zuko.?? Did they ever say who was the first born??? Because from the way Azula teased Zuko and such, it seemed like it was her.)?? After all, Azula made it very clear she wanted her father to become Fire Lord and didn't seem to have much respect for her grandfather or her uncle at all.?? It would/could also explain that overly evil smirk she had at the end once her father was crowned Fire Lord.

    Geez...I want answers.

Well this episode has made me come up with some theories/idea:
    1) One of the reasons Ozai hates Zuko for being "weak" is because Zukos mum disappeared (suicide, running away, what ever) to save Zuko, Ozai feels he lost his wife because of his supposed failure of a son and every time Zuko "fails" it just reminds him of that.
2)When Azula says "you'll never catch up" she talking about the affection and respect of his father and grandfather.

3)Another reason Ozai hates Zuko could be that Zuko is first born and rightful heir, like Iroh is, and so as second born Ozai holds resentment to the idea that Zuko would get the throne by right and not have to "fight" for it as Ozai did.

4)The reason Zuko as a teen tries to gain his fathers affection is that he is trying to prove that his life was worth sparing.

5)Zuko is the second main character to offensively use bending along with a weapon (Aang being the first when he used the fans in "the warriors of Kyoshi") both times the use of weapons when bending have been more powerful than when they bend unarmed. Could this mean that bending with a weapon is more powerful than unarmed bending and perhapes that be how Zuko surpases Azula and/or Ozai

    6) What he said about the swords being two halves of the same blade was forshadowing the problem he would have when he was facing the soldiers, he was just fighting as one side of him self (the blue spirit side) and not as a whole.

We know??Ozai plotted to become Fire Lord. We're not sure howHim becoming Fire Lord happened, Though. I Think that when he spoke to Azulon, Ozai's plan was to find a way for his favored child, Azula, to succeed him. Therefore,??Ozai's punishment wouldn't have been much of a problem. Zuko would have been out of the way. ??

Do you really think Ursa is dead though?! I dont want to believe it. And from what we know from Zuko, "Azula always lies" You never know. How did Ozai get Azulon to make his "dying wish" of letting Ozai be Firelord, when he was in the beginning, a "picture of health" AHHH nothing makes sense right now!

I like your theories.?? I agree that the weapons seem to enhance the bending power.?? Those fireballs that Zuko??shot off the broadswords were definitely more powerful than anything I can remember seeing him do-- that last one blew away the boulder shield and that soldier and knocked them, what, 60 or 70 feet??? Contrast that with Azula's lightning-zap of Zuko.

Yes, they did a great job of answering many previous questions... and then giving us a whole bunch of new mysteries to make us CRAZY!?? I also hope that Ursa is still alive.

Hey, do you think that this episode kind of foreshadow where Zuko and Ihor will meet up again.?? I mean you would think that Ihor would have ill will against Ba Sing Se but it seems like he likes (He sang??a song about it a few episodes ago) it even though his son was killed there.?? ??

I think that Azulon's dying wish really was that for Ozai to succeed him. Maybe after the meeting he had with Ozai when the request that Iroh's birth-right be revoked, he probably thought about what Ozai said about Iroh's bloodline being broken and Ozai's children being alive. He may have also reallized that Iroh might not be able to handle the preassure of being Fire Lord after his son's death. But the damage he had done to Ozai had already been done. Just a thought.

Now that we know how Iroh's son died, it makes it seem impossible for one of the faces, which had similar features?? to Iroh, that Koh the face-stealer had to be his son.?? Unless Iroh's son made it into the Spirit World, had his face stolen, then continued to fight, getting himself killed.?? It may sound weired, but we have seen someone already in the series with a disability still fighting.?? This person also can't see (e.g. Toph).??

He sang the song because it would get him and Zuko money.?? And he really only sang about the girls, which should have been expected of Iroh anyway ???? Zuko's face when he sang was so dang funny

    Wow... I was gone for one day, and look how much I missed @.@;

I'm starting to favor the idea that Ursa killed Azulon... It just seems to make the most sense. I mean, it was said before, but while Azula may be a little *****, I doubt she's capable enough to defeat the FIRE LORD. And the idea that Ursa gave herself up for Zuko is a reasonable one, but it goes against too many state facts in the episode.

so has this occured 2 anybody?:
i thought we were supposed 2 assume, [but??i guess??im wrong & its just a mystery 2 the viewers,?] that zuko was supposed 2 die because his dad was an arrogant jerk & said he should b firelord blah blah, BUT his mom sacrificed herself 2 die instead of zuko cause she loves him & shes awesome like that....... i dont kno, must see eppie again 4 further investigation (not 2 mention the re-experiance of the BEST EPPIE EVER!)

"Things in our family are not always what they seem" Iroh. I think this quote refers to the status of Zuko's mom, Iroh's son and Zuko's father. (notice i didn't say the firelord because perhaps the two are not synonymous.)
