But in the end was Bumi of that much importance? Sure he saved Omashu and was White Lotus but any old redshirts could do that. And I think this would be for the better. Bumi's personality is too animated to be displayed on screen without it being over the top and annoying.

It would be annoying, but it would also provide comic relief. Plus, the kids are way too attached to that crazy old man

lol... Season 1 has the most one shot episodes so it will probably be the most trimmed down. Basically, every episode was a totally different epic adventure and the movie wont be able to accomplish this METHINKS

Ahahaha, I think it's more likely that Season 1 will make the most sense, seeing as we don't need everything. That's good, though, because everything rides on the success of the first movie.

Another question is whether or not they'll make it a closed film. Like, with A New Hope, they made it with the intention that if it failed they wouldn't need to make a sequel because there would be no need. Do you guys think this would be similar?

But they wont get the proper budget, the next films will fail, and Avatar will forever be remembered as the movie that destroyed his career.

It's impossible for The Last Airbender to fail. Think about it, if each Avatar fan around the world knew about the movie and most likely 95 percent or ALL will see the movie, then there is no way the movie can fail. If they are loyal fans of the show, they will see the movie.

I'm sure there are much worse movies than this that he's made and he's STILL going strong. I'm not that worried. Plus, it won't fail. Bryke is there, uh dur! Stay positive. But if it does fail, at least we got (somewhat) free advertisement!

But this will be in two years time, when people will probably shrug off the show they used to love and say "That looks terrible. God, when I was younger..."
Forgive me for my cynicism, but a few forum-goers and podcast makers seeing the movie a dozen times does not a hit make.

That's true. We need more than dedicated fans to make this movie popular. But from what we know so far the movie should be epic. We've got a large budget and we're shooting in Greenland and Vietnam. It's sounding pretty good at the moment.

That didn't come into play when the third season aired for the second time. Sometimes these hiatuses are too long. I don't know if Avatar fans will stay loyal.

Consider the Star Wars fans. After the end of the original Trilogy in 1981, the Star Wars fanatics stuck around for a whopping eightteen years before the prequel trilogy was unveiled and they could see some more of their beloved story. I think we can survive for less than two years.

Well i know i will Me and my 2 cousins my 15 yr old cuz and the 17 year old all plan on seeing it together, even if it does look like crap, I will stay positive and say that it WON'T look like crap. As long as they have really good advertising and the Trailer catches people's interest the movie will not fail. WHO KNOWS it could be a 2010 Summer Blockbuster hit!

As my cousin pointed out, one year and 10 months WOOT! Excitement. I need to get a counter or something.

But the Star Wars fans also had tons of EU... I'm sure there'll be plenty of that for the die-hard avatar fans but a casual viewer would rather shrug off the MMO (unless that got major publicity + decent reviews) and the fact also remains that A New Hope was the highest grossing film ever around that time. There were way more fans of that then there are current fans of Avatar. At best, some of the people who watched Sozin's Comet and are first-time viewers will say "WHOA DATS AMAZING" and proceed to watch the early series and then become die-hard fans, but I'm doubting that....

It's true that simply having all of the original fans going to see the movie is not going to be nearly enough - we have to hope that Bryke and Shyamalan produce an epic masterpiece that will attract hordeds of new fans. I'm just saying, the original fans can and will hold out. As long as the movie is epic and gets advertized properly everything should turn out swimmingly.
