But in the end was Bumi of that much importance? Sure he saved Omashu and was White Lotus but any old redshirts could do that. And I think this would be for the better. Bumi's personality is too animated to be displayed on screen without it being over the top and annoying. |

Another question is whether or not they'll make it a closed film. Like, with A New Hope, they made it with the intention that if it failed they wouldn't need to make a sequel because there would be no need. Do you guys think this would be similar? |

But they wont get the proper budget, the next films will fail, and Avatar will forever be remembered as the movie that destroyed his career. |
WOOT! to Bryke for not letting to movie fail!
....
If they let it.. I will B*tch slap them both!

It's impossible for The Last Airbender to fail. Think about it, if each Avatar fan around the world knew about the movie and most likely 95 percent or ALL will see the movie, then there is no way the movie can fail. If they are loyal fans of the show, they will see the movie. |

Forgive me for my cynicism, but a few forum-goers and podcast makers seeing the movie a dozen times does not a hit make. |

lol or they'll be like "OMG! I remember that show i loved that show so much! They're making a movie out of it? I MUST SEE IT!" |

Consider the Star Wars fans. After the end of the original Trilogy in 1981, the Star Wars fanatics stuck around for a whopping nineteen years before the prequel trilogy was unveiled and they could see some more of their beloved story. I think we survive for less than two years. |

But the Star Wars fans also had tons of EU... I'm sure there'll be plenty of that for the die-hard avatar fans but a casual viewer would rather shrug off the MMO (unless that got major publicity + decent reviews) and the fact also remains that A New Hope was the highest grossing film ever around that time. There were way more fans of that then there are current fans of Avatar. At best, some of the people who watched Sozin's Comet and are first-time viewers will say "WHOA DATS AMAZING" and proceed to watch the early series and then become die-hard fans, but I'm doubting that.... |
It's true that simply having all of the original fans going to see the movie is not going to be nearly enough - we have to hope that Bryke and Shyamalan produce an epic masterpiece that will attract hordeds of new fans. I'm just saying, the original fans can and will hold out. As long as the movie is epic and gets advertized properly everything should turn out swimmingly.
