But the Star Wars fans also had tons of EU... I'm sure there'll be plenty of that for the die-hard avatar fans but a casual viewer would rather shrug off the MMO (unless that got major publicity + decent reviews) and the fact also remains that A New Hope was the highest grossing film ever around that time. There were way more fans of that then there are current fans of Avatar. At best, some of the people who watched Sozin's Comet and are first-time viewers will say "WHOA DATS AMAZING" and proceed to watch the early series and then become die-hard fans, but I'm doubting that....

It's true that simply having all of the original fans going to see the movie is not going to be nearly enough - we have to hope that Bryke and Shyamalan produce an epic masterpiece that will attract hordeds of new fans. I'm just saying, the original fans can and will hold out. As long as the movie is epic and gets advertized properly everything should turn out swimmingly.

Yes, advertising is key. But that shouldn't be a problem. Most viewers who would bother to watch it watch MTV and Nick. So, I think that's taken care of.

Advertising might be a problem but a bigger problem could be the Nick connection. Like Axrendale (I think) said a while back, Nick Movies as a label won't attract much attention from DA TWEEN SET

But Nick owns MTV. It's being supported by MTV Films. Therefore, the new movie will be advertised on MTV AND on Nick.

Actually, this problem has already been solved: the movie is being made by Paramount, not Nickelodeon. The only mention of Nick (hopefully) that will ever get out is "based on the award winning Nickelodeon tv series". If we're lucky, it won't even be that; they'll restrict themselves to "based on the award winning television series", and Nick's name will be relegated to the credits, where nobody will either notice or care about it.

But there'll still be BALLOONS saying Nick Movies. Exactly why I said TWEEN SET.

EDIT: Oh, I see Axrendale posted before me. Well that eases my thoughts quite a bit.

Nope, it's been stated quite clearly that Shyamalan's doing this in association with Paramount. Nick has absolutely nothing to do with it.

OH! Awesome. That actually makes me feel a lot better. But that kind of dampens my excitement on advertisement. The movie should be more respected now, though.

I would gladly trade in all the advertisement in the world in order to keep this movie from bearing any mention of Nick's name. As long as there is some decent advertizing (and I don't see why there shouldn't be), all will be well

There's hope for major fan gainage if people haven't heard of Avatar yet and don't know they're related to Nick. But, I must admit, I am SOOOO excited to yell at my friends when they see how epic the trailer is. I want to rub it in their face. I want to embaress them and make them admit they're wrong. God, do I love revenge.

ok.... for the last time M.Night will only direct the first movie. he wants someone else to do the rest. as for the advertising, i don't think they should over hype it too much where it appears to be just fan-driven, but just enough to interest other people who are unknown to the series right? i think its very important to attract other crowds too. thank god its not animated.

as for what to decide what to put in the movie from the series, it's most likely that the writers and producers will keep that factors that lead up the comet. For example they can take out the episode where katara steals the water scroll, not an important factor. And like the makers of avatar said, there are going to be new twists so the storyline isn't so predictable. i'm kinda looking forward to that.

new twists???? i never heard that!! I just hope since there will be a different Director for the 2nd and 3rd films there won't be a noticeable style difference from the 1st, because that will be strange.

I don't remember where exactly it was said, but I remember reading the interview. He won't be shooting the 2nd and 3rd movie.

"According to Shyamalan, who delivered his presentation at the Licensing International Expo 2008 in New York, he will probably only direct the first movie, and produce the other two. Or at least, that's what he says at this moment; who knows if he'll end up going Peter Jackson on it." That's what it says so nothing is official yet

I watched it from a recorded video when they were at the San Deigo comic con. the creators were answering ?s from the audience.
