Let me tell you something. Spongebob was my absoulute favorite TV show until around november. I watched one episode of Avatar and I love it now. Everyone who says Avatar stinks has probably never seen an episode. I read in an article that Avatar attracted a ton of viewers (i dont know the exact number) on the friday nights when Avatar aired new episodes. Spongebob is the funny, stupid show it has always been, but Avatar has more depth and is more dedicated to the storyline.
well said. i used to be the biggest Spongbob fanatic ever as well, but once i started watching Avatar i noticed that it is actually following a story line and each episode contributes to the story. so if you only see one episode and you think it doesn't make since and is stupid that is because you haven't taken the time to think about what the point is. sure Spongbob is funny but so is Avatar, if you don't believe me there are a number of episodes i would be happy to recommend. so before to critique something make sure you know what your talking about.

True. But it's still a classic. I saw few more episodes of Avatar and have gotten used to it. As for who's better, well, they're both different. Spongebob's better in comedy, while Avatar's better in suspense.

Spongebob is funny when you are in the mood for stupid humor, but Avatar is the best of the 2 because Avatar has a storyline, has the animated comedy (Momo), has a storyline that is very intense and suspenseful. Avatar has only 40 episodes so far, and every episode is nicely put together. Spongebob has more than 50 episodes, ranging back from 1999, and most of them are very poorly done.

Three words: I like both. However, SpongeBob has gone downhill with most of its recent episodes. I would also like to point out that they are in two different genres (comedy and action/adventure, respectively), so therefore they really aren't comparable.

I love how SB fans are like: SB rocks! Its the best! and Avatar fans are like: Avatar is better for the following reasons...

But of course who wouldn't like SB? The intense plot, gripping cliffhangers, astouding VA, and breath taking animation are to die for. /sarcasm Yes, SB is lame. Sorry, but it really is. Great if your a 7 year old who feels like watching dumb "humor" but thats about it. Every one else has already said why Avatar is better so I won't bother. But yea, in my opinion Avatar crushes SB.

Ok, we all need to understand that not everyone will like each other's shows, and diversity is the source of all conflict, but when we say that other shows are 'crap' or 'stupid' then we are just giving ourselves a bad name. That is going out of line. You can say that one show is good and that you don't like the other show at all, but PLEASE refrain from insulting other shows. That is basically called 'ignorance' because they are unaware that there are other people out there that like the show, and they wouldn't like to see someone bashing their favorite show. We shouldn't have to worry about 'which show is better', because we should ALWAYS know that there will ALWAYS be someone who thinks different from someone else, and you can't change that opinion. We need to keep the conflict down, and we shouldn't be worrying about the people from another forum or what they say.

Well, I never really saw a full episode of Spongebob before, because I'm not one for stupid humor so I got a little disgusted, so I can't really insult it, but if you want to insult Avatar, at least watch an episode or two first!

Avatar is much better than Spongebob for many reasons. One of them is that Avatar has a (gasp!) story. It an epic like Lord of the Rings or Star Wars. Spongebob is a series of randem events. Avatar has fluid and colorful characters, they are free to make mistakes and learn from them as people do all the time. They have goals and aspirations. It has a point and purpose. It teaches you about Asian and Inuit culture. It features real life martial arts as a bending **** It requires imagination to concoct not two seconds of bathroom humor.  It features real world events such as genocide, war, propoganda and betrayl . So, in essencence it is like a Star Wars for the TV set. It is an intellectual pursuit you have to think about events and piece them together into the bigger picture. Not just sit and absorb like a sponge!

That's just dumb. If you want an epic story, don't watch TV, read a book or something. And good TV isn't real-life events. Good TV is things that give you a reason to watch TV. Like, things that AREN'T about real-world things. So why don't you go sit around and read a 7th grade Social Studies textbook until your eyes turn brown, if this is what you want.

Spongebob has its humour and everything, but I think avatar is better. Avatar has an epic storyline, goes deep into the characters minds, the battles are good, the bending has tae kwon do influence, and everyone of all age can watch it. Not to mention it has better ratings than Spongebob.

"Read a book or something."? Then you might as well yank Harry Potter, Spiderman, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings off the tv/movies since they are epics as well.  "Good TV is things that give you a reason to watch TV. Like, things that AREN'T real-world things." That is true but most of the time it features real life events that are turned into fantasy, such as SpongeBob going to the beach when he lives underwater. Unless we become aliens there will always be real life references because this reality is all that we have. Also I believe the correct insult is "until your eyes turn red." Really, if you're going to insult someone at least get the insult right.

I don't think the two shows have such a large competition against each other because SpongeBob is a comedy and children's show and Avatar is more of an action and story show.

They don't. As I have said before in the Avatar forum counterpart. I just don't like people insulting stuff that they have even taken the time to view at least one or two episodes or at the very least a commercial(like I do with Mr. Meaty).
