I say it's a genetic thing. Azula has her father's personality and Zuko his mother's.

Personality isn't a matter of genetics. It's a matter of upbringing.

Personality can be both a matter of genetics and upbringing. Which genes are activated depends on your environment(upbringing) and if Azule would have been slapped once or twice in her youth she could have just become the quiet evil ponderer type who always plots against her enemies but never does anything about it. It's not that her mother didn't love her, she was already an evil little kid to start with. It could have been that the lack of love could have made her that way ... who knows. But I just think she needed to be disciplined. She's just a spoiled brat who needs to be told her limits.

Nah, she's just purely evil. Ursa may have been stern with her all the time because she needed to be, the child was pyschotic and she could tell she said "what is wrong with that child", I mean even when she was a little girl she said awful things about members of her own family, and it's not like she was exactly heart-broken when her mother died (but maybe she wouldn't be) but she wasn't sad about Azulon either, Besides logic aside, the creators said that Zuko was a complicated character not purely evil, Azula on the other hand was purely evil. The creators word is law, Azula is pure evil.

She isn't evil, but she is cold blooded -- a cold-blooded firebender. She is not dispassionate, though, because she bends fire without restraint. Her weaknesses would likely show up in longer battles.

Two words: Mentally Unstable. Add her father, Ozai, to being crazy, and you get modern Azula!!

In spite of everything having been said on this thread, no one has explained to me why my mentality toward Azula is reminiscent of Anne Frank like that one guy said.

Maybe I have mentioned this before on another identical thread, but azula is cold-blooded, literially. When on her battleship or tank-train she had to curl up under a heat lamp to stay warm, when camping out at night she must slither her self between the hot bodies of 2 teenage mammals to stay warm (ooooohhhhh yeah!)

    2wingo,

I don???t know how your implied superiority for seeing azula for who you think she really is has anything to do with a girl from Amsterdam that died in a nazi concentration camp. I think you should ask who ever said it to explain.

Azula isn't mentally unstable- if she was, she wouldn't be able to bend lightning, which requires a singularity of thought and focus. She is at peace with who she is, her goals and her station- and who she is just happens to be a cold, calculating, remorseless villain.

I think that Azula is one of those people that enjoy to have others in pain. Could be a mental thing (there's one where an individual finds pleasure when they themselves??feel pain) and there is also how she was treated. Becuase of the the adoration she has, she finds herself capable to do whatever she wants. I don't think maternal love could change this view of hers because Azula gets what she wants no matter what anyone else thinks. The power she feels when she hurts someone is probably one of her perks (seeing her grandpa push her dad around like that must be so encouraging for her), besides being a perfectionist since she's a prodigy and all.??

In conclusion,??her goal in life is to a) be better than absolutely everyone and b) cause suffering because she enjoys it. Don't really know why she doesn't just take over the Fire nation herself, or maybe she likes doing field jobs better than sitting around.

She's not evil. She just doesn't care about anyone about herself and has taken that extra li too far.

She is very disturbed.?? A hug won't do.?? But her own brother beating her to a pulp will do the trick.
**Pulling a baseball bat from my bag and handing it to Zuko after her chi has been blocked by her fruity friend.**
