Wow. We're off topic. Katara is annoying, but that's probably just because she's a woman. Toph isn't because she's just another one of the guys. I hope in the Avatar movie she is played by Sarah Silverman. |

I like each person (almost) equally. But I think Katara is (one) of my least favourites. But she is up there with my favourites. She is the most mature one on the show, which makes her seem like she is the most "perfect" but not in a bad way. Although I like the more Tough girls, (Katra is Tough, but not so much), not so much motherly ones. I find her anoying at times, but not much. But she has her faults. I have one big complaint about her though- She needs to have an obvious weakness, probably why I don't like her as much is because she doesn't under-go much character develepment on the show. She has character develepment, but not as much as the other characters (Here are in orders the most chacarter develepment)- Zuko Aang Sokka Toph (considering the low amount of episodes she has been in) Katara Zuko has total obviuos weakneses Aang he starts out as a fun-loving kid (he still is though) but was never serious about the war to much. You can totally tell he has a much different attitude about it by the way he fights etc Sokka has never really had any respect for girls, but now he does a lot more. Even his bad attitude and sarcasm has died down, just a little. Toph has a lot of character develepment to undergo. Katara, I really don't know? She's *sort-of* hard-headed, but only when she needs to be, I don't se ethat as a weakness, like Toph, she is hard-headed, when she doesn't need to be. |

Katara is the team's juggernaut. I have yet to see her be defeated in one on one combat, while aang has. She held her own against Azula with ease, while aang almost died. She needs be shown as a more emotionally scarred character in season 3, because of aang's near death (I'm not shipping. Aang is her friend, u know). But this would change against Zuko, who she would attack viciously, then relapse into a weak state after the battle is over. In short, she would have PTSD, post tramatic stress disorder. |

And I won't stand for that!
Btw, srry for thinkin you and SonofIce were the same person. I'm just so used to White Kobbra and Ninja Jaguar that I lost my manners.
I must agree with masterofaeons on every point.
Look at all of the characteristics:
-Everyone is constantly making remarks about her beauty. ("She's too pretty for you." -June "She's beautiful." -Meng)
-She's grown from barely able to coordinate where to push water to creating tsunamis and crazy water-octopi in what, a matter of months? When, in the beginning, old masters (Jeong Jeong, Pakku, Roku) were talking about all of the years it takes to master bending. She has mastered water-bending quite well in such a short amount of time. Meanwhile, other water benders in the North Pole have been studying for years under a master of the arts, but she is able to surpass them easily within a few days. Since the North Pole, she's been teaching herself (since she's been teaching Aang), but has made huge strides in water bending despite the short amount of time and the lack of a proper teacher.
-She inexplicably encounters a hidden talent for healing that she is able to utilize immediately upon discovery. Meanwhile, in the North Pole, these water healers are being taught at a young age (for what I assume would be a few years as well, otherwise they wouldn't need to cultivate the talent at such a young age).
-She's worse than Sokka in the love department. She has twice as many love interests as her older brother, but when comparing the two, Sokka is more likely described as chauvinistic while Katara's love interests are merely attracted by her charms.
Now imagine, if someone else were to write about a girl who was remarkably beautiful, a powerful warrior, a miraculous healer, and has had multiple people fall for her, what would that be called?
A Sue. That's simply what she is. A Canon Sue, but a Sue none-the-less. She's just a wee bit too "special."
She's even greater than Aang half of the time. I understand they're trying to promote "girl power" and avoid damsel-in-distress syndrome, but they should tone it down a bit. If they wanted a girl character to be so powerful and great, they should have made the Avatar a girl.
Edit: I forgot the tragic past of her mother's death, crafted so the audience feels nothing more than sympathy and empathy towards the character -- another Sue characteristic.

Toph, alone, as the Avatar could carry her own show. |
But Toph is too young to be an object for me and other teenagers to drool over.

I mean, Aang is so annoying with his love for Katara, it sometimes seems that he pays no attention to anyone else but her. I mean, in the guru episode, was the only thing that attached himself to the world was Katara? They should have shown the group hugging eachother or something. |
I totally agree with you. I think the creators are "shipping" the entire thing to the extreme. Like when the Air chakra, the chakra of love, was brought up, it discussed the love of his people and then the new love of Katara. What about the love of his other friends? And then, as aforementioned by the quoted poster, apparently only Katara and his feelings for her bind him to the world? At that moment you'd think he didn't even like the rest of the group. "Meh, I wouldn't mind ditching my other friends to get to the astral plane."
