Hopefully the Katara of the future is a little less perfect and toned down. I'd like to see her in a different light (aside from this light where she's the most powerful fighter in the world, everyone's obessession, and the one everyone relies on to get them through. Why would the world need an Avatar if Katara hasn't met her match yet - even against the PRINCESS of THE FIRE NATION, WHO REGULARLY BESTS GENERALS AND WARLORDS?!?!!?##% *foam, foam, faceplant* |
Well, you have a point, but thats why we have season 3 to look forward too.
Theres supposed to be a new enemy, which will appear for most of the season. Maybe this new enemy will be stronger than Katara or even the whole Gaang.

I hate it how shows always have a stronger and stronger enemy that you have to face. That is what made DBZ boring.
They should have the enemy be themselves. They get caught up in their own hubris (their own hard work).

Yeah that got annoying after Cell. I wasn't thrilled with the Buu saga, it was so-so. GT stuck. The hubris would interesting. Anyway why are we ressurrecting a long died forum about hating Katara anyway?

"A new enemy? That I can't beat using all of my power right now!? Then I must get STRONGER! And I do that by YELLING FOR EIGHT EPISODES!! RAAAAAAAH!!! Ha ha! I have bested you! You are dead! The world and I can now rest easy... ...what's this? An even MORE powerful enemy? Then I must get STRONGER! RAAAAAAAAH!!!"
"Internal conflict" or such personality faults as a conflict would be an interesting change of pace, but I don't think it would work in a cartoon aimed at twelve year olds who would probably think such an idea is boring or that the idea of their favorite characters are capable of mistakes is inconceivable. Why are they introducing a new, even stronger baddie when they haven't even defeated Azula yet, though?
Either way, I'm hoping that, in the coming season, Sokka's physical fighting ability is made more prominent. As the story progresses and more bending in introduced, Sokka has been taking more and more of a back seat when these battles take place (and he was already hardly acknowledged to begin with), and is really only showcased for comic relief. It would be nice to see that "normal" people are capable of fighting in the Avatar world and not just sources of amusement for those with bending abilities.

(I didn't know it was dead, I was just looking in my bookmarks, found the link to this, and just posted.)
They do keep making her increasingly powerful, and over such a short amount of time. By next season, she'll be near invincible. She'll probably have mastered her healing ability to surround herself with magical healing-ness in the midst of battle if things keep progressing the way they are now. (Come on, going from hardly able to move a small patch of water to being able to counter natural currents IN ONE EPISODE? How about NOW being able to generate huge tsunamis that wipe out dozens of warriors? And she's really only begun to seriously water bend within a few months? Half a year maybe?)

Toph was strong to begin with. Katara's strengh has been increasing dramatically over the course of 6 months (in the avatar world)

Toph balances herself out. And she has clear weaknesses. Just lift her off the ground or tell her just how pretty the sunset looks. She'll give up and admit she has limitations. If Katara is ever beaten she just gets stronger and keeps fighting until the writers give up and let her win. Toph has weaknesses that are taken advantage of and she's been beat up. When was the last time that was saw Katara against a wall AND DIDN'T DESTROY EVERYTHING IN SIGHT then save Aang and look AMAZING doing so? |
Katara's pretty cool. But she can be kind of annoying at times.

Katara has lost to Zuko only in Season 1, when she didn't start getting overwhelmingly powerful. Since the finale, she's proven that she can beat anyone - anytime. She didn't lose or win against Zuko in XROD, but she kind of proved her worth after turning the Octopus stance into a tidal wave that wiped out the royal duo and around 30 Dai Li agents. I'm pretty sure she came out on top there. Her fighting against Mai and Ty Lee isn't part of the litmus test for me, as no one has beaten Mai and Ty Lee. Let me describe the Mai Lee formula. Stuff happens, the three girls split up. Azula does something important and Ty Lee and Mai take care of Sokka and Katara. A usually comical situation follows...then either Toph or APPA swoops in to save the day (Appa more often). Since no one has beaten Mai or Ty Lee in direct combat, I don't count them as competitors. Aside from the God-Moding Twins, how many people have beaten Katara? Zuko (when she was normal) and Azula (when she's not full of righteous fury). Verdict? Katara is overpowered. The only thing more powerful than her is Appa. (But that's a different sore spot) |
