And it couldn't have been accomplished by them staring down for a few seconds, a short timeskip, them looking more strained, repeat until something happens? Lazy writing to make the show seem longer unless I'm missing something.

Isn't that what they did? (its been a while since I watched those episodes) But I remember it switching from the 3rd Hokage vs. Orochimaru to Gaara vs. Naruto when necessary.

    No you got that backwards.
    That'd make you delusional.
No. Naruto is popular in multiple countries from children to adults. It's far more well known than Avatar, which is just an anime wannabe.
How does that relate to his post?

Guys, you must admit, most of Naruto's popularity is because of it's marketing, if it wasn't because FUNi made it to target pre-teens while on Tv, it wouldn't be as popular as it is now.
If One Piece was with FUNi it's entire run, it would probably be as popular as Naruto in US.

Adding to your statement Spacerac: And the villians don't stand by while the main hero powers up. Watch CoD, That Azula scene is probably 1 of the most realistic villian scences ever.
    CoD?
Oh shoot * facepalm * Almost forgot, you don't watch Avatar that much. The Season 2 Finale: The Crossroads of Destiny. Aang's powering up for the Avatar State when all of a sudden Azula zapps him, therefore destroying the state and "killing" him. Has any villain actually hit Naruto while he was doing a jutsu or powering up to do the kyuubi?
Well Aang was just floating in space a free target. In Naruto the powerups happen pretty quickly. Anyway hand signs are a small price to pay. In Naruto characters can use a much wider array of moves.
Well when naruto was transforming to Kyyubi, Dediara could've made some clay and hid it somewhere near Naruto and it would've blown him to smitherreens.
Its Deidara actually. Anyway he was out of clay unless im mistaken. And he wasn't trying to kill Naruto they need him alive.
I see, waging war then, let's go. B.O.T.: Draggin it out, let's take the 3rd Hokage and Orochimaru's stab for instance. (Now who in the WORLD can stay in that same position for 3 episodes straight!?, now my little brother's a Narutard to the death but even he thought it was kinda weird that they could do that.)
Yeah that is wierd but you know what both of them were eagerly trying to kill each other.
Ya it was more about a battle of willpower than anything.

Could you please explain why they were having a battle of willpower? And not a battle?

Also, how do you fit 3 episodes into one hour of narutime? That would be slowing the battle down....

They had other stuff to focus on. By your logic Show time should be the same as Real time.

What would give you that idea? Useless, boring stuff should be cut out, therefore making show time SIGNIFICANTLY LARGER than the real time the episode takes.

And Aang knows how to not goof off when neccessary. In fact, when approaching the battle with the Firelord, he attempted to stay up for four days straight to train, only stopped by his concerned friends.

But I wonder... why drag that out? Eh?

And Aang goofs off, yup, but it's for minutes at a time, rather than a season's worth of episodes stuffed full of it.

To show their struggle? It wasn't dragged out that bad.

Naruto spends multiple episodes on a single fight, most of which is the characters standing around talking or staring or growling or spouting one liners at each other.

The Ninjas you're thinking about didn't exist. They were just some stupid exaggeration done by Hollywood to make Ninjas look cool.

Real ninjas actually blended into society, mostly by wearing civilian garbs.

Avatar is just the opposite. They have a quick run in and Aang and his group manage to get away in the end. In Naruto fights SOMETHING happens at the end to forward the plot.

    No.
Ninjas are from ancient japanese history, before the Edo period, they killed for money, and that's it, they were silent, but yeah, they did blend into society so that only poweful people would know about them, they only killed in night and were also sometimes used to find information.

Naruto is awosme, but the term ninja isn't fitting.
