I think that it also has to do with their race. It seems like fire nation man get grey or white hair faster than the man from other nations. These are man from the fire nation that have greyish, grey or white hair: Fire Fountain City Mayor (seen in the Runaway) War Minister qin, The Warden who is the commander of the Fire Nation prison rig seen in the episode "Imprisoned", the Circus Master (of the circus Ty Lee used to be a part of), Old Man Ding (of the episode The Puppetmaster), Dock from the episode the painted lady, Fire Nation School Headmaster from "the Headband", Piandao's butler Fat that appearde in "Sokka's Master", Governor of New Ozai City (omashu, he is Mai's dad), Lieutenant Jee, Fire Sage Kaja... Frankly it leaves me confused what has happened with the ages on the show- and all because of FL&A. My understanding of age in the show has been that with greater control and ability with Chi one can stay stronger and live longer than others. ANd this doesnt necessarily mean your a bender- the Guru seems to have no bending ability but is well over 100 yrs old and going strong

Bumi- 112 years old and yet has muscles that would make the fittest ppl in their 20s gape

Iroh- 60s or 70s (Yes i believe he is alot older than Ozai, who i might add looks alot old in DOBS than in Awakening- different drawing companies) and is now also in the BUmi stage.

AND this is just in terms of muscle strength, when you include how powerful these guys are as benders, so late into life, its staggering AND YET

BAM 58 YEAR OLD Roku (an Avatar, so SHOULD technically live longer than even pwrful benders because of his chi levels) and Sozin (a pwrful FB) looking like they are older than Iroh. But then you add to that the fact that Sozin then ruled for decades afterwards (ive forgotten my numbers, been a while since ive done this, but he apparently lived to roughly 100) and have a KID in his 80s (Azulon died at age 95- at start of the war). I really dont think they planned out their timeline correctly

I wonder how they develop the timeline as they write the show.

    good question Space

and I decided to bump this topic as some people have been asking about "timeline" of Avatar

remember, I base this timeline almost exclusively on what was written on the show

yes, he is 16(maybe almost 17, but not 17 as he hasn't had a birthday yet)

I find funny that Sokka doesn't remember his mom, when Katara is 1 year younger

I said the same thing. It should be Katara who doesn't remember her mom---so I'm guessing Sokka doesn't remember Kya not b'cuz he was too young, but b'cuz it tramatized him.

Anyways the only way I can see this timeline working with Avatar---is if you don't have to be dead to pass on the Fire Lordship. Maybe Sozin gave it to Azulon before he even died.

that might have been the case, but I am guessing that at most 10 years before his death

That would make sense, since Sozin said he spent the rest of his life looking for the Avatar and it's pretty hard to do that when you have a country to rule.

he didn't necessarily looked for him by himself; very likely that he got Azulon to look for him just like Ozai got Zuko to do it, and either Ozai or Iroh also looked for the avatar

Iroh stated in the first episode that Zuko's great-grandfather, grandfather, and father searched for the Avatar sometime in their lives. I'm going to assume this was done all separately from each other. Iroh never looked for the Avatar.

Well, we know that he spent at least part of his time teaching Zuko firebending.

He was scouting spots for his hot beverage chain. Who do you think invented starbucks?

Definitely not Iroh. With the way Iroh is into tea, I imagine that Iroh considers coffee to be amongst his mortal foes.

I am indirectly indicating that even if it was because he "was with Zuko", by process of "conjunction" he was basically "looking for the Avatar" too, even if he "possibly" never looked for the Avatar when he was young

and Azula also "looked for the Avatar"

maybe Lu Ten did also, but that one is much harder to be able to reasonably imply it

It started as Tea. The origonal name was Starleaves (like tea leaves) but then the plans were stolen by evil coffee makers and turned into Starbucks.
