Wow. It took me three days to catch up with this thread. Well, I might as well add my two cents....

Overall, I thought the finale was pretty good. I went into it thinking "Of course no major characters will die" but when Sokka and Toph were hanging off the airship, they really had me going. I think their part was my favorite, which probably has something to do with the fact they're two of my favorite characters, but I think their side of the fights are always a little different, not just an all out battle. Anyway, more Iroh would have been nice. I was a bit disappointed with his part in the fight. I liked the connection to the vision of taking Ba Sing Se, but I thought he deserved more screen time.

I did not have a problem with the lion-turtle/energy bending at all.

A little detail I would have liked was a short flash of the minor characters before the end, kind of like in "The Awakening" for the take-over of Ba Sing Se. Only happy. I especially wanted to see Longshot and Smellerbee one more time. I liked them. Heh heh.

It's not necessarily the age difference I'm pointing out, its the maturity. Katara is more mature than Aang, and that's why my whole scenario makes sense. But it is a hypothetical thought process during the kiss. In reality Aang has matured far more than a normal 12 year old. I was just making a witty connection between age, maturity, and the signatures some people have.

Its true, Katara is a bit more mature than Aang, but if you look back since season one Aang has really changed, and the duties and challenges he had taken through his journey involved a lot of mature decisions, especially for a 12 year old. ...And I think Aang is 13 now. Its been about a year thats gone by. *shrug*

Is anybody really a little mad that the show ended, I mean in general. Honestly, when I started watching the DVD's in June I thought I was going to have to play catch up and search online for hours to get episodes and then I find out a new show I just got into is OVER. Granted, there still are the movies, but what about the show itself ? Do you think we will ever see another book ? I can understand an epilouge episode to tie everything up, and I would be satisfied with that, but I just feel like they had a good thing going and left us hanging out to dry. Lost does that to me every season, but at least I get my questions answered an it comes back every year. Why couldn't Avatar be like Spongebob and get a marathon week with new episodes every once in a while ? If shows like Spongebob and Rugrats can stay consistant and get new episdoes years at a time, why cut short a masterpiece ?

    Why cut short a masterpiece?

well it wasnt cut short. the reason ATLA cant go on like spongebob is because spongebob has no plot ATLA does, and you have to understand that making avatar go on continuously for years may not have the result you are looking for because the plot would need to be spread extremely thin making avatar no different than other anime shows, it would be never ending.

Understandably everyone is miserable on this forum because we are avatards and therefore we mourn for our favorite show's loss.

There will be no book 4 as confirmed by bryke, as for anything. If there is going to be more Avatar i reccomend waiting till the 26th all your questions will be answered at the SDCC

Yeah i felt the same, but i heard from a couple of my friends that the reason it ended so fast was because of the writers strike. Im not sure if any of that is true, but i heard it from about 3 of my friends who are really into the avatar series.

No, Avatar wasn't affected by the writers' strike at all.

Yeah, the thing about Avatar was that it had a fixed timeline. We learned during the Winter Solstice (about December 20th) that Aang had to defeat Fire Lord Ozai before summers end (August-Septemberish). Along the way we were reminded about how time was moving and the season's were changing; for example, we knew that when Toph joined them it was Spring, and during The Avatar and the Fire Lord it was the Summer Solstice (around June 20th). Avatar was always going to end with Aang defeating the Fire Lord, which is something he only had about 9 months to do. It would have been really hard to string out 9 months with hundreds of episodes.

I'm not a Zutara fan, so I can't really answer with much certainty, but I think the reason has to do mostly with the idea of it. You know, older/taller guy, used to be bad, but has some good, etc.

Didn't think about the whole plot thing.... And I am anxiously awaiting news from SDCC. Who knows maybe there will be another Avatar series. Every interview I've read said that it was the end of Aang's and Zuko's "story arc" and the creators are working on "another incarnation of the character..." Who knows what will happen but I'm sure Saturday will yield some news...
