The series finale was awesome and disappointing at the same time. The battle was epic, but what I don't understand is that if they can kill off Princess Yue, Jet, Kya, not to mention the genocide of the air nomads, why didn't they kill off someone this time? I mean, this is supposed to be the battle of all battles, and no one dies. And the ending was so generic--he meets a giant lion turtle who teaches him how to bend energy instead of the elements, how CONVENIENT! Not to say that Aang becomes a fully realized Avatar(I assume) and Zuko becomes the new Fire Lord. I mean it was pretty much expected but give us something more substantive. Oh and what happened to Ursa and Azula? Did they just completely disappear? And what about this whole Aang and Katara ending? In the Ember Island Players, she confused about her feelings and then when the War is over she finally realizes that she loves Aang? Give me a break. Are you telling me that her feelings were completely based on the outcome of the war? Sokka and Suki managed as well as Zuko and Mei, for whatever time it was worth.

I agree. I thought there was too much convenience to the whole thing. I also think they should have done a more substantial epilogue than just a tea shop outing.

The Kataang revelation was rather out of the blue too. To look at it objectively - they didn't show us any thought process to go off of on how Katara reached her true feelings about Aang. At least show us how she reached her revelation of love if you want us to accept the ending and pairing. That was my main issue.

WHY DO YOU PEOPLE POST SO GOSHDARN FAST!?!?

Why do I have a weird feeling that somehow Teo's son/daugher's gonna be an Airbender?

As for the Avatar State triggering thing, I think there's some importance in the "Awakening" scene where Katara states there's a lot of energy twisted up at the spot where Aang's lightning scar is. Maybe that hard bump from the rock in "Avatar Aang" broke that "energy knot" free or something.

And how is it that some of you had captions? I turned captions on while rewatching it at one point, and I didn't get anything.

You know what I think would be neat? If Sokka and Suki's great-great-granddaughter is born a few days after Aang dies, is named after Katara, and turns out to be the next Avatar. XD

Are you telling me that her feelings were completely based on the outcome of the war? Sokka and Suki managed as well as Zuko and Mei, for whatever time it was worth. Now if I was a writer for Sozin's Comet I would've ended it like this: 1. I would've killed off Iroh, Bumi, Jeong Jeong, Hakoda, Pakku and the other guy(sword master), because they represented the old generation. The new Generation would take over like Sokka becoming the Chief of the southern water tribe, and Zuko continuing not only his position as the new Fire Lord but continuing the order of the white lotus. 2. I would've introduced [Fire Lady] Ursa as a hooded wanderer in the beginning. At the end of the Battle between Zuko, Katara, and Azula, just when Zuko is about to give the final blow (my version) deeming Azula too dangerous, Ursa makes an appearance by saving Azula (preferably through fire bending), both resolving Zuko's search for his mother and Azula's sense of abandonment by her. 3. When Aang was removing the Fire Lord's bending, I would've given insight into Ozai's psyche. It's been hinted that Ozai's relationship with his father, Azulon, is similar to his relationship with Zuko. I would've done something similar to how Smallville had Clark go into Lex's mind. Then after having Aang relieve him of his rage, anger, and resentment, Ozai would've lost his fire bending in a similar way that Zuko did during the the Fire Bending Masters. 4. One of my grievances is Ozai's fire bending. I would've had Ozai be able to control purple fire(hottest in the spectrum). I mean if Azula can use blue fire bending, which is technically stronger than orange-yellow fire bending, then her father should be able to step it up a notch.

    5. Even without all the changes I previously mentioned, one thing I would've changed for sure was the last seven minutes! Instead of that generic ending, I would've done a 10-12 year time-skip! Aang, being 25 years old or 125 years old depending on how you see it, would've been in an air temple, with the restored Air Nomad nation, teaching what I would call blanks (those with no affiliation to any nation) air bending. Zuko, being 29, would be leading the Fire Nation with Fire Lady Mai(2, Azula(27) being the ambassador of the Fire Nation, and Ursa and Ozai living on Ember Island(where they were once truly happy.) Toph(25) would have become the new Earth Queen, since she's one of the most powerful Earth Benders. Sokka(2 as the Chief of the Southern Water Tribe as well as Suki(2 with her visible betrothal necklace are teaching young fighters. Katara(27) teaching young girls and young boys how to water bend. Aang leaves the air temple on Appa, with Momo joining them. Katara rides a canoe (similar to the first episode), while thinking of her past adventures with Aang. She is then greeted by Momo. She deducts that Aang must be close by. She finds Aang with a recreated version of the Iceberg from which she freed him from. They talk, they admit their love for each other, they kiss, then scene changes. After my final 150 year time-skip, a 16 year old water bender, a girl named Kota, was just told she was the avatar. She is told to go in to a room where she'll "meet someone who'll guide her." She sees the statues of Yangchen, Kuruk, Kyoshi, Roku, and that of a monk. The eyes of the statue(monk) glows, as well as hers, taking her to a spiritual plane. An old Air Nomad appears before her. The Air Nomad speaks the final words of the series, saying "Hello there Kota, I'm Avatar Aang!" Now that would've been an awesome and dramatic ending.

i agree with you but unfortunately this is a kid's show....

Athias ending seemed way better, the orignal ending has less closure. There are way to many questions to answer with the orignal ending but with Athias's one their are i say none. You show that the chain of avatar's will continue and if teh writiers wanted to do a spinoff that didnt involve any of the old characters, there you go you introudced a new one and the old ones are dead. The whole not killing the firelord kind of ruined it just a lil. If basically every past avatar is telling you to kill him and even an air nomdad avatar then do it or go about teh bending thing in a different way.

I don't know about Ursa but they probably put Azula in a mental home or something. And about Kataang well actually when they finally get together that's a few months after aang defeated Ozai (according to the book) and Katara was unsure about her feelings for Aang up until then however she might have realizide she loved him at Zuko's corination though by that look she had. Geez you sound like you hated the finale. I would have made a few changes too but I thought the finale was great. And about the 10 to 12 years later thing well not doing that makes room for more episodes or another series. Also that would have been weird because Aang would be 25 and Katara would be 27 and they would finally get together I think Katara would have been able to figure out her feelings for Aang way before that and They gang would probably visit each other a lot.

Also that would have been weird because Aang would be 25 and Katara would be 27 and they would finally get together I think Katara would have been able to figure out her feelings for Aang way before that and They gang would probably visit each other a lot.

lol im sure mai will kill katara.....

    huh?...

    lol wut?

I liked Athias's ending, but I think the part with Ozai wouldn't work. Jumping into his mind, seeing the anger, then resolving it would be even more anticlimactic than this ending, as after 3 seasons, Aang would make the fire lord "good again" in about 5 minutes. I say he goes ahead and kills him or encases him in a metal suit so he can't fire bend his way out. Otherwise, I thought that was great.

I like the idea of having Avatar Aang be the Roku of the next series. There might even be a couple of episodes where Aang can explain to the new Avatar what happened after defeating the fire lord!

This is a little off topic but the eel-hound made me think of it. Does anybody have a list of all the different animals in the show that they used both for travel and just appearance.

I thought the finale was amazing. It just had an amazing production value. However, my one gripe with the finale is that I thought more time needed to be devoted to it. A 4-episode finale is pretty long, but the events seemed to have formed a bit too quickly. Maybe it's just me, but I think the show creators had been wary of this episode limit they had to work around, resulting in the large number of unanswered questions. They should have removed all of those fillers in season 3 and use those empty episode slots to further develop the events surrounding the finale. The fillers were still enjoyable to watch, but some events should have more weight than others, you know. The finale seemed to just jump into the action, not necessarily a bad thing, but I would have liked more prologue in the finale to enhance the sense of impending doom. This sense was by no means completely absent, but it should have been more emphasized.

The last thing I ever would have thought to watch on TV was Nickelodeon. Seeing commercials for Spongebob, and the various other examples of Children's Programming made me want to hurl. I am 17, and as a result, I spend most of my time watching MTV with friends, when most of the time I don't even like the shows. I love Lost, House, and Heroes. Those shows have substance, not the mindless dribble of MTV "real life drama". A friend of mine at work told me to watch this show Avatar: The Last Airbender , on Nickelodeon, and I immediately dismissed him. The next day, he came in with each box set for the series and demanded I watch them. This occurred in the beginning of June. I have since been engrossed by Avatar, and have finished the remaining episodes via online repositories. I cannot express how much this show wowed me. The animation was superb, and the universe was so intricate. The characters were so round and easy to identify with. I was able to escape an travel with Aang, and see his fantastic adventures unfold before me. Much like Harry Potter has done for me, Avatar allowed me to escape for that brief half hour into a world where men could bend elements to their liking and were faced with a choice, use that power for good or evil. All I can say is that this series is a gem, and I will miss it terribly.

The finale was incredible. I was a little irritated by the "Where is my mother ?" question, and the tea shop thing was a little corny. I just would have liked a "15 years later" ending that tied up all loose ends. Apparently, there has been talk by the creators of a spin off which they call "another incarnation of the character". I am anxiously awaiting news from the San Diego Comic Con on Friday July 25. There is supposed to be an Avatar Q&A which will answer some of our questions

Anyway, after seeing the show and completing it in a month's time has robbed me of the community experience while the show was still airing new episodes. I do hope to become an active member of the Avatar - TV.com boards, since you guys seem to have the latest and greatest on the series and franchise as a whole.

The first paragraph was from a quick blog entry I made a few minutes ago. I felt it was relevant to the finale and expressed my feelings on the show as a whole. I wrote that because I thought the whole "Levels" system required content to be submitted before I could post .

I hope to see more episodes or at least another special that acts as a "wrap up" to answer my questions

I hope my first post was in the right place ( I have posted in the wrong topics before) and I am excited to find that there actually is a large fanbase for Avatar outside of my little 10 year old cousins
