The last thing I ever would have thought to watch on TV was Nickelodeon. Seeing commercials for Spongebob, and the various other examples of Children's Programming made me want to hurl. I am 17, and as a result, I spend most of my time watching MTV with friends, when most of the time I don't even like the shows. I love Lost, House, and Heroes. Those shows have substance, not the mindless dribble of MTV "real life drama". A friend of mine at work told me to watch this show Avatar: The Last Airbender , on Nickelodeon, and I immediately dismissed him. The next day, he came in with each box set for the series and demanded I watch them. This occurred in the beginning of June. I have since been engrossed by Avatar, and have finished the remaining episodes via online repositories. I cannot express how much this show wowed me. The animation was superb, and the universe was so intricate. The characters were so round and easy to identify with. I was able to escape an travel with Aang, and see his fantastic adventures unfold before me. Much like Harry Potter has done for me, Avatar allowed me to escape for that brief half hour into a world where men could bend elements to their liking and were faced with a choice, use that power for good or evil. All I can say is that this series is a gem, and I will miss it terribly. The finale was incredible. I was a little irritated by the "Where is my mother ?" question, and the tea shop thing was a little corny. I just would have liked a "15 years later" ending that tied up all loose ends. Apparently, there has been talk by the creators of a spin off which they call "another incarnation of the character". I am anxiously awaiting news from the San Diego Comic Con on Friday July 25. There is supposed to be an Avatar Q&A which will answer some of our questions Anyway, after seeing the show and completing it in a month's time has robbed me of the community experience while the show was still airing new episodes. I do hope to become an active member of the Avatar - TV.com boards, since you guys seem to have the latest and greatest on the series and franchise as a whole. The first paragraph was from a quick blog entry I made a few minutes ago. I felt it was relevant to the finale and expressed my feelings on the show as a whole. I wrote that because I thought the whole "Levels" system required content to be submitted before I could post . I hope to see more episodes or at least another special that acts as a "wrap up" to answer my questions I hope my first post was in the right place ( I have posted in the wrong topics before) and I am excited to find that there actually is a large fanbase for Avatar outside of my little 10 year old cousins |
