You make a good point. I change my ranking (see above). You're right that Jeong Jeong is probably a very good firebender who knows a lot more advanced moves than others, but I really just don't think that he can compare to Ozai, Iroh, Azula, or Zuko. |
I think he can measure up to the post FBM Zuko and the insane/sane Azula pretty good, but also mostly because of his experience. If Zuko and Azula were older they can beat him, but not yet. He is discribed as a "firebending genius" "Firebending Master" Katara said he had powers she will never know. And he is a high member of the Lotus, and he said the Order of the White Lotus is about truth and filosophy so, Iroh and he would probably have talked about firebending and Iroh told him fire is life and comes from the inder drive and not anger, and stuff like that. So he probably also knows the true way of firebending. And he said "fire destroys everthing in it's path if the bender does not have the will to control it, and that is just true. And maybe he didn't want to tell it to Aang because he would even be more playfull with fire then, because he might think it couldn't harm anyone. And even when he thougth fire was only distruction, he played with it like a little child, so... You get my point?

I'm pretty sure that Jeong Jeong didn't know the true way of Firebending. The true way involves seeing fire not as a destructive force, but as a positive thing too. So Jeong Jeong's views are the opposite of those of the Sun Warriors. Experience is always good, but by now I think that most of the gaang (and their opponents) have plenty experience of their own. Jeong Jeong is, as Katara said, a great master. But he simply is not a top tier master rivalling the likes of the Royal Family (Ozai, Iroh, Azula, Zuko).
So Jeong Jeong stays down on the list.

I'm pretty sure he does know, I mean the order of the White Lotus is about truth and philosophy and beauty. Not about distruction, death and pain. So, if he is such a wise man, and probably friends with Iroh, he must know the true way of firebending. So if it's about truth and beauty it must also be about the truth and beauty of firebending. The order of the White Lotus isn't meant for distruction, but for peace and truth and stuff like that. And sice Jeong Jeong is part of that I think he must know it. I mean, It's and ancient group, it goes back to the beginning I guess, or else it wouldn't be ancient.
And as I said before, I think he is top tier, rivaling Zuko and Azula, for now. Not anymore when they are a few years older and more experienced. But now Azula got completly insane after Katara defeated her, she probably is not very hard to defeat anymore so the completly insane Azula isn't that powerfull.

Tell that to Zuko - he's the one who got a lightning bolt to the chest.
And no, being a member of the Order of the White Lotus does not mean that Jeong Jeong knows thhe secrets of original firebending. Simply believing in peace and harmony does not = original firebending; that requires an understanding of the actual philosophy of the Sun Warriors and Dragons, and Jeong Jeong's philosophies stand in clear opposition of them. Just because he is a wise man, and friends with Iroh does not mean that he has figured it out - he obviously hasn't, and as far as we know has had no contact of any sort with the dragons or Sun Warriors. So Jeong Jeong doesn't know original Firebending. He also has yet to demonstrate knowledge of lightning, lightning redirection, or any other advanced Firebending forms. He was an awsome character, but he simply isn't as powerful as the main Firebenders in the show.
my opinion
Fire:
1. Iroh! - he only fights as he really has to, you only see his real power in the finale - one of my favourite characters.
2. Ozai - If you saw the fight against Aang or the lightning bolt he fired at Zuko?
3. Pakku - Just an old, strong master
4. Zuko
5. Azula
in season 1 and 2 it should be Azula/Zuko
Water:
1.Katara
2.Pakku (old, but not a talent as Katara)
Earth:
1. Toph: a blind bender! She sees with her feet! She can Metalbend!
1. Bumi: also on first place, less fine than Toph, but with more power! he rescued Omashu on his own...
All by all, Aang still defeats all the characters above.

No I meant the insane Azula after she got her ass kickt by Katara. There is where she completely colapsed, even more as before. And about Jeong Jeong, well, it may be something whe just never going to agree on. But still, I think he may have learned it now, but that may not be the case as you said. But is the original way of firebending stronger than the other way. I think not, the difference is just that the sun warriors understand that fire can also be a good thing. But I don't think that makes them stronger. But maybe we will never know exact how strong Jeong Jeong is exactly, since we have seen him fightng for only 30 seconds. I still think he's a little more powerfull than Azula and Zuko for now, but only experience based. On raw talent they surpass him, but I don't think they can beat him yet. Anyway, that's just my opinion.
But who do you think is physically the strongest person in the series?

Combustion Man. Incredibly tall, terrifically buff, and able to simply stand there and have Zuko's kicks and fireballs simply bounce off of him.
And yeah, I think that we're just going to have to agree to disagree. The fact is that when all is said and done, Jeong Jeong was a very minor character in the series; brought back only to even out the numbers of the OWL - he and his power were never a main focus of the story.
And let's also agree to do without the insanely long quote pyramids next time
Okey, no long quotes anymore :p But it's a shame we didn't see much of Jeong Jeong, as well as of Pakku and Bumi, we didn't see them much too. They are awesome, maybe an idea for a book 4. More of the White Lotus, and Aang and the gang. And you right he was a minor character in the series. But he is still about 5 times more powerfull as the normal bender
And my ranking for most powerfull physical person.
1 and 2 Big Bad Hippo or Combustion man. They are about the same height. (210 cm?) Only CM is more muscular, but that doesn't mean everything. Because the most strongman have also some fat, so they have all the muscle power but also a little extra weight of the fat and that good for lifting heavy things. Btw, how much do ya think they weigh? I think CM at 160 kg and Hippo at 220-250 kg.
3 Pipsqueak is also strong I think (180 cm 125 kg?)
4 Boulder (185 cm 100 kg?)
5 Hakoda?
And btw did you ever notice that Zuko looked tiny next to the sun warrior chief. I mean the chief was about 30-40 cm taller I queuss. And Zuko already is 17, and most guys are near their max height by then. So is the chief a giant, or is Zuko just tiny? Or very late with growing, I mean most people at 15 are near as tall as an adult. Give or take 10 cm, but not that much with Zuko and the chief.

You forgot to mention Iroh! Granted, we never got to really see what he could do with his new buffness not firebending, but I imagine that it would be pretty impressive - even after we first saw him super-buff, he was still exercising in the cell for about a month before he busts himself out in DOBS.
Hard to say with the height thing. It should be noted that none of the members of the FN Royal Family are giants - Iroh is the same height as Aang, Zuko slightly taller, Ozai about the same height as Zuko, and Azula about Iroh's height. Mabye that's why they all wear top-knots with elaborate head-pieces - to make themselves look taller

Iroh, Ftw... Lol, Iroh is one of the better firebenders, but jeong jeong and Iroh are on the same level to me. |
Yeah, I think that to, but we didn't see Jeong Jeong firebend a lot. But he's a living legend and a firebending genius as said by Chey, so. And he can tell how powerfull other benders are just by looking at them. He saw Aang didn't master earth and water yet, by looking at how he walked. And he knew how Aang stood without even looking at him. So that's impressive. And luckily I'm not the only one who thinks Jeong Jeong is extemely powerfull. But it??s just the thing about him, like the ones mentioned before, that makes me think he??s so powerfull. And ofcourse those massive walls of fire that blocked 3 attacks from tanks, who??s power was also boosted by the comet. And he could block the attacks of 4 Zhao??s men. Or 5. And then sneak into the forest without somebody finding him again. So may he could sneak behind his oponent to and then kick his ass with firebending.
And about Iroh being so buff. He's probably quite strong now, but probably not as strong as Hippo CM, Pipsqueak or the Boulder. They are at least as muscular as him, but they are all lots talles so they have probably more muscle and power.
