I think Toph might be able to bend FN metal after she gets more experience. Nuff said for me.

but since theres no earth fragments in metal then its impossible
the firenation melts all the earth out all the impurities
that why the ek can't easily destroy their ships but their tanks are dumbly designed since they are full of water

I understand your point of view. But think bout it. 7 year olds watch this show. They wouldn't understand why Toph couldn't bend that metal. Yeah...

Now we know Toph can kick down metal doors, jump into said fallen door, build a metal suit, and continue kicking around metal to defeat Fire Nation warriors and benders. She certainly got the hang of it. However, it all has one thing in common: she can't just "punch the air" to metalbend as someone once commented; she needs to be forcefully in contact with it. All the bendable material will pull closer to Toph, and, once she does that, her earthbending makes her as powerful as her more ordinary earthbending in a more ordinary environment.

I am challenging the arguments of any of the people who said Toph can't bend Fire Nation Metal... Did anyone actually pay attention in Sozin's Comet? Not ALL Fire Nation metal is uncapable of being bended by Toph... She showed that she IS capable of bending different metal, when she (ironically on Fire Nation metal) demonstrated the best Metal-Bending we have ever seen, and she arguably imitated Iron Man, with pure ease (That body of metal was undeniably epic!)... I am also guessing that Metal was as great and mighty as Fire Nation metal can get, considering those air ships were designed for the most important Fire Nation mission ever (Their finale chapter in conquering the world and taking out the biggest and most comptetion-worthy nation in the world (next to the Fire Nation))... She also bended loads more metal on the air ships in Sozin's Comet, which served as the reason most of them didn't burn the living hell out of the Earth Kingdom... Just stating a fact... Fire Nation metal isn't invincible... And if she could bend that metal, I don't really think Fire Nation Navy ships would be that big of a problem either... The Guru stated that metal was just Earth that had been purified and refined... He didn't say one specific metal was harder or impossible to bend...

And just because Aang mentioned Metal-Bending before Toph could do it, doesn't mean it existed a long time ago... He was just tired and wished he could get rid of the metal faster.

You really have to take things on Wiki with a grain of salt.

In most 4 element settings, metal is considered to be of the element earth. Earth normally includes rock, sand, dirt and metal, sometimes wood but that's more the exception than the rule.

I would say that Toph does bend the metal itself. "Metal is simply refined earth" said the guru, so it's not that she's only bending the little particles of dirt in it, she simply needed to notice that they are in fact present. I'm sure she'll soon put two and two together and realize that she can bend it just as she does "normal" earth. It's much more difficult, just like firebenders wielding lightning, but it can be done and she'll probably teach Aang to do it too.
Well, scientifically speaking, Wood isn't part of the Earth element at all... Just saying

Although I agree with you 100%, those posts were made months ago I was about to respond to them as well, but then I was like, "WTF" and checked the date. ROFL. I'm sure you were a little shocked. But what I am confused about is that these posts are AFTER the Awakening when Toph bends metal on the FN Navy ships. So that is a bit of a shocker.

I think we can all agree that the Earth element (scientifically, realistically AND classically (classically, meaning in most TV Shows where the four elements are involved in the plot)) is made up of Rock, Stone, Dirt, Sand, and Metal. But do you think that in the Avatar, with training, Earthbenders could also learn to bend other types of rock? Like Glass? Or as someone mentioned before, Diamonds? Just ideas...

That isn't a shocker, THIS is the REAL SHOCKER!

Jusk kidding. This is just a picture of the Shocker, one of the toughest enemies of Spider-man, he has gauntlets that generate EXTREMELY powerful vibrations and discharge them via compressed air blasts, or use them to create a vibro-shield around him. He's actually beaten Spider-man a few times and often gives him a hard time. Anyway, to stay on topic, really, I have two ideas on how Toph bends metal: one, no matter how much you smelt it, there will still be some earth in the metal, though it will be very small and very far apart from each other, she just needs to locate them and then she can just bend it, and over time, it just became easier. Or the second reason, maybe it's because it is still Earth, she realized that metal is just earth only more pure and over time as she became more experienced with it, began to treat it like normal earth. But that would mean that she couldn't bend metal that was never part of any sort of earth, like if someone just materialized metal out of thin air, she couldn't bend it. Most probably, I go with my first theory, there are small and widely scattered pieces of earth in every metal no matter how well refined. And it's not like she has the power Magneto has. Magneto has the power of magnetism and can control any ferrous metal, but he can also control other parts of the electro-magnetic field such as x-rays, gamma rays, ultraviolet rays, and even the electromagnetic spectrum, though doing so puts more strain on him.

She already IS the greatest Earthbender ever... Lets take a look at her accomplishents, shall we Isabel? .

She created Metal-Bending, and is genuinely the first person to do it, making her a legendary master, and the creator of the most special and unique Earthbending we will ever lay our eyes on.

She single-handedly owned the Dai Li (These are the direct decendants from the Earthbending warriors who were trained by AVATAR KYOSHI).

She has defeated men 2-4 times her age with pure ease, and could probably defeat Bumi (Who is 100 years older than her). She has seriously proved experience doesn't mean anything when you are against her.

She is capable of bending what seems to be all kinds and types of Metal, and even imitated Iron Man's wardrobe in the finale, beating the living hell out of COMET-empowered Firebenders.

She is the human eqivalent to Badgermoles.

All that she has left to fully, FULLY, master, is Metal-Bending.

She is extremely young for a master, and will only become more of a legend with age...

She is the most unique bender in the whole damn show.

All this, and SHE IS A 12 YEAR OLD BLIND GIRL.

Excluding Avatar's (Who I personally don't think are as great of Earthbenders as she is), she is the greatest Earthbender we have ever seen, probably the greatest Earthbender we ever will see.

I agree that Toph is the greatest earthbender in her time, but we don't know enough about past earthbenders to be able to say she was the greatest EVER. But I do find it skeptical that anyone could pwn Toph.
