cold-blooded ???adjective: without emotion or feeling; dispassionate; cruel Does that sound like Iroh? Yes I am aware of lightning being called the cold-blooded fire. I'm not arguing about that. I'm arguing what you said before about having to be cold-blooded to bend lightning. You have to be in control of your emotions, not cold-blooded.
    I'm taking mcr's side.??

Iroh: Lightning is a pure expression of firebending, without aggression. It is not fueled by rage or emotion the way other firebending is. Some call lightning the cold-blooded fire. (Iroh takes the tea kettle off the fire and pours it into another pot. He then begins to pour two cups.) It is precise and deadly, like Azula. To perform the technique requires peace of mind.

If you are in control of your emotions and you use that to your advantage, you are in fact "without emotion or feeling", hence "cold blooded".

But the advantage Iroh has is that he can choose to be emotional or not. Think of there being two settings: Zuko and Azula - Passionate and strictly composed. Iroh is the only character on the show that is not a slave to his feelings (Azula not withstanding, as she seems to have no real emotion) and can stand outside of his passion and look at the world unblinded.

We agree, you're just arguing over semantics.

You're looking at the literal meaning of the definition. "without emotion or feeling" is associated with someone being cruel, or heartless. That's why I don't agree with you. Iroh is not any of those.

And no, being in control of your emotions does not mean you're cold blooded.

Settle down. He's not a newb, he sounds very intelligent and is willing to argue reasonably to prove his points. I look forward to many discussions with him.

You're filling in the blanks there. Cold blooded is not Cold Blooded killer. It just means they don't have an emotional reaction to what happens to them. It doesn't mean it's a permanant thing.

    Meh, I'm over it.

On many sites my screenname is McCainSr, and I misunderstood what Gil was saying. As anyone knows when trying to create something, you must have the same temperment as the result you are trying to create. For instance, you can't make a morose painting by being happy and using bright colors. It's something you have to relate to. Iroh doesn't have to outright say that the bending AND the bender (and the fire nation and surrounding territories and more than 15% of the cast) must be cold blooded, we infer that much. The element is cold blooded, the bender is cold blooded (at least at time of bending). There's nothing more to argue.

I don't know who's side you're on Gil and don't much care because you have brought nothing to this discussion except slander and horribly phrased segments of thoughts. Don't give me advice on how to post.

wat iroh meant when he said lightning is the cold blooded fire meant wasn't that you felt no emotions, its just that you felt no ANGER, thats why zuko cant do it, he's hurt too much inside, or sumthin, so he's angry, causing it to come out as fire

You watch Gilmore Girls, Friends and Avatar! How can I not mess with you! Come on!

You called me a newb when I have double your posts and sidetracked an effective arguement with drivel. This discussion is over, now it's purely bashing and I'm not a part of that. Go learn how to structure a sentence.

Right, Hokai. Zuko will be no more than an uncontrolled Firebender unless he can learn to let go of his problems. However, he has more potential than that and doesn't need to rely solely on bending (as Azula ironically does).

Zuko would have won if they were out in the desert, with the sun at its zenith on a clear day. It's more than just power, it's terrain and environment. Zuko and Katara are equals.
