Somehow when I put myself in their places,it's like a piece of cake for Katara..all she has to do is ...whoosh bring up a stream of water to block the fire, then create a snowball and hurl it at the scarred face...and presto,Zuko's out cold.

Well, it seemed to me that Zuko was the stronger of the two. Assuming that the moon was still up when Katara was fighting Zuko, Zuko simply overpowered her. If the moon had set by the time the sun rose, then we would have to determine who was the stronger by judging who would win when both the sun and the moon were in the sky.

Well they probley could have fought intill one of them were tired then the other could finish them off.Shouldint water beat fire every time?cause the water would put out the fire.

Why do u think Zuko didint finish her off?i meen she was on the ground unconsious 1 fire blast to the head...ouch.Plus how did zuko get to the snowy place with anng as there was no path and the gang needed appa to get up.Kataras my favriot charecter but i belive shes better when shes unconscious(less anoying).PLUS whys the pole even there?it has no use and should have a sign hanging off it "BEWARE FIGHT BY AT OWN RISK"

    Intense fire can evaporate water.

And the issue of terrian was more equalising than anything else. If it was in a dojo or something like that, I would say that Zuko would win??purely for the fact that to bend he doesn't need to have a ready supply of his element. That's the flaw of water benders, out of all benders they are most likly to be isolated from their element.

Also I think Zuko would win just cause at that time Zuko wasn't so reluctant to hurt people inorder to acheive his goal.

Zuko is the better fighter, with a full moon out after swimming through frozen water, he managed to last a good time against Katara, then smacked her when the sun came up. Then after being stuck in a blizzard and carrying the avatar on his back for hours and hours on top of everything else Katara managed to repay the favor. That tells me that she need advantages to face up to him. Furthermore Zuko is skilled in far more than just Firebending, he is a bonafide ninja and a master swordsman. Jet fought Aang to a near standstill without any bendin at all and Zuko is better than Jet. I can't honestly imagine Tai lee managing to get any points on Zuko, Mai neither. Plus we have really yet to see Zuko Firebend at his peak against another main character, IE with Broadswords. As Fans and staves make aang stronger so should broadswords make zuko stronger.

Overall the advantages lie with ZUko. He can fight more ways, is more determined (Zuko the relentless) and assuming that there was nothing special about the sun that day in the north pole is Katara's better on all days, were as she has only proven to be his better on nights of the full moon, or 1/8th of the days of a month.

Is it just me...or did Zuko seem way more powerful than Zhao in their dark, moonless night-time fight in the Season One finale? He was throwing around way bigger fireballs...and kicked Zhao's butt...again!

I think if Katara really ticked him off she'd be in a lot of trouble.

Zhao is more a ambitious military leader than an actual fighter, granted he is probably better than the average fire nation grunts.

Zuko was able to take him down in the begining of the series, and while Zhao was focused on advancing his military and political standings Zuko was improving his combat skills...makes sense he would take out Zhao with little trouble

Zuko was kicking Zhao's firey hiney. As has been stated Zuko has been training since they fought at the south pole, and has improved. Zhao has been promoted which unlike in anime doesn't actually increase your abilty to beat people down.

the only way to tell is if they were on mutual terrain and there were no outside circunstances. also the time in the series. if it was back in the day when zuko used firebending freely it would have been a cooler fight. but i like the 'lee' version of zuko better thatn the original and if he were to fight with his swords it would be tight. but the best would be if katara had like a staff or something plus waterbending and zuko had his swords plus firebending... can you say F*CKIN AMAZING!?!

I've often wondered what weapon could be best suited to Waterbending? I mean Earthbending has the hammer, Airbending has a staff, Firebending has its broadswords...what about Waterbending? a whip? the sai? tonfa? nunchaks?

Well, if we go by the martial arts, Tai chi practioners use a straight swords similar to the one in Crouching Tiger. I've seen them use fans too, but in Avatar, it's probably more an airbending weapon.

It would probably be a weapon customary to the people of the water tribe - a boomerang, spear, or sword breaker, though I doubt that Katara would use a sword breaker since it doesn't seem to be a weapon a woman would use.

Why do people say he won by catching her off-guard.

Katara was strengthened by the moon, Zuko was weakened by it, and they still fought nearly equally.

Then the sun came up, Katara lost her advantage, and Zuko's flame plowed right through her watershield (Which she rose before the attack reached her).

The only reason she stood a chance to begin with was due to the full moon strengthening her power.

well she WAS caught off guard. she turned around and had a second to feebly block the fireball that knocked her into a tree. and they weren't fighting nearly equally when the moon was up. katara could have taken him down in the first 15 seconds of the match by encasing him in ice instead of surrounding him, but that would be a pretty boring match to watch

But she did incase him in Ice, twice (Course its questionable if he could have broken free the second time without the sun).

And you also have to consider he wasn't focussed on her, he was focussed on grabbing Aang, he ignored openings in which he could have shot Katara and instead tried to grab Aang.

on the first one, she SURROUNDED him in ice when she could have frozen his whole body like she did to many people beforehand, thus winning the fight

but i do have to agree that zuko wasn't fully focusing on fighting

i still think they're even though

Well, it would have to be a weapon through which Katara could channel water. Boomerangs, tonfas, nunchaku, and sais don't seem like waterbending weapons. My guess would be the spear. It's fluid movements would best be suited for waterbending, I think.
