i loved this episode!! ...for other reasons than most people apparently. mainly i love sokka themed episodes but i LOVE the fact they always show off his brilliance and ingenuity. from thinking of submarines to figuring out the insulation and drift of the chill rooms...pure genius!!! smart characters never get their due and i'm glad sokka is. (plus his big a$$ sword is freaking awesome). what's better though is how the fighting styles of each chacter become more defined. azula/zuko/suki have been talked about a lot already but i found hte Mai/ty lee 'fight' with azula the most interesting. while most characters on the show keep getting more and more powerful despite not being the avatar (kattara's blood bending & toph's metal bending & azula's jet thrust - amoung others) it is refreshing that some characters have had some limits put on them. people are wondering why mai didn't fight the guards? it was pretty obvious to me, she ran out of knives!! dang she must have thrown 20 (i lost count). how many can she really have on her body at all times? really? plus there was ty lee's non aggresiveness. sure she can fight and take out fire benders but her indisicionimpulsiveness and timidness are her primary weaknesses. it was clear that the only reason she attacked azula was to stop them from fighting (she knew azula can take mai out) but then she didn't follow through enough with her impulsive actions. great characters become better when we can see thier flaws.

also who can't love a big large ex con who makes jokes? really!! i wonder how he got into prison there.

I think this episode was worth the wait. Though I still don't forgive Nick for doing this to us... (gumble) Anyway, yeah it almost looks like Zuko and Sokka are friends. Pure awesomeness!

It's starting to get pretty annoying that a recurring character throws knives, and yet no one ever gets stabbed. I think they shouldn't have made that her weapon, because it's pretty pointless if no one ever gets stabbed.

Eh. I think they handled it pretty well. It doesn't make a lot of sense for her to send people flying when the knife hits their clothes, but eh. Given the weapon/censorship combo, they do a great job.

If they'd given her a staff or something, maybe that'd work better, but that'd require too much energy/grace for Mai. lawl.

Why did they make it knives in the first place? They knew about censorship. If she was going to have projectiles surely it would make sense to make them non-lethal.

If this was an 18 film I would understand, but this is Nick.

That's why I suggested a non-bladed weapon. But the thing is, knives pretty much fit with the personality. Gothic kids cut, so hey. :X

maybe its not cuz of censorship, maybe she just isnt a killer or she doesnt like the sight of blood

at least it establishes she is not a heartless killer, Ozai or combu man would kill with the knives without any hesitation

But yeah, good point Wiselad and Cancer, the fact that she never kills people doesn't need to be all about censorship, it says something about her character.

I don't even care about Mai not killing people. She's pretty cool in her own way. I just loved the comedy and the kickass scene when Suki did her thang!! That was frikin awesome.

Haha, at the beginning when Aang had to do his firebending excercises was hilarious. It's rare that we get to see the little boy side of him that isn't all heroic and serious.

My word! What the hell is wrong with some of you people?! The episodes were fantastic but all you people can do is talk about knives! Pathetic! Whether or not you "grown ups" watch it, it's still a kids show on a kids network! So I see no need to have knives that kill people and have blood all over the place! Any other weapon would have been pathetic since there was such a large number of guards vs. one Mai. I thought the handled it perfectly and I took nothing away from the episode. So perhaps some of you grown ups need to grow up!

In case you haven't noticed, this thread is 572 posts long. We have been talking about the episode for the majority of this thread, it just-so-happens that a few posts have meandered into the topic of one of the main character's weapons. In a few posts the topic of Mai's choice of weaponry will die and we will discuss another aspect of the episode.

I loved this episode. I especially loved the animation in Part 2.

About Ty Lee and Mai, does anyone else feel a little sad about them getting thrown into jail. I'm talking more about Ty Lee because I can't imagine her in prison at all. And their treatment probably is going to be pretty bad since they attacked the guards and Azula. I just feel a little brokenhearted when I think about them in prison.

I nearly died when listening to the dialogue. Maybe it's the pervert in me, but did anyone else notice that a lot of the exchanges, and visual scenes, seemed to have a little.. subtext?

Here's a line that made my eyebrow raise.

Mai: I don't need any protection!

At first I was like "Bryke support teen pregnancy! D:" But then Zuko's line after that.

    "Believe me, she doesn't."

    Poor Mai..

    In the BR?

"You're going to be my special prisoner." -The Warden to I think Zuko

"You're my prisoner now." -Suki, to The Warden (and the whole restraining him thing was bad enough and the suggestive look she gave him)

"Would you two stop cuddling." -Chit Seng to (Zuko and Sokka?)

Sokka grabbing Zuko from behind to make it look like he's beating him up.

I have to watch part 1 again, because I'm sure there's more.

I took it as them not needing protection for some sort of reason. Two things come to mind, but I'd already said some weird stuff, I don't need to traumatize any kiddies.

I got another: When Chit-Seng was lifting up that random guy to start a riot, the way he was moving him up and down looked a bit strange to me.
