I think it was meant for them to be captured so that it there be a reason for them becoming good (in some form) and helping to bring down the Fire Nation. Ty Lee was never a real bad guy, you could see how she never wanted to join Azula in the first place. And I think Zuko's speech touched Mai. Now that they have been sent to a Fire Nation prison, there is a larger incentive for the two to help end the war. The two will now see what effect the war has on others.

The reason Mai and Ty Lee didn't escape, is the same reason Iroh didn't escape in CoD, the same reason Hakoda and other adults didn't escape in Day Of Black Sun, there was no where for them to go. They were stuck on a island.

ty lee could have easily walked the wire and reached Zuko and the rest, she chose to stay with mai

If she tried escaped that way they probably would have just cut the wire. They were pretty much trapped.

I would assume that Mai was out of knives by then but then again it was shown in RTO that she also has them on her legs.

I think the main thing was, like nyfan said, they were trapped on an island and they wouldnt have gone far. THey were fairly surrounded, and unlike earth bending in the Drill, firebending is still a fairly agressive power and its kinda hard to capture someone and not hurt them; if Ty lee screwed up then it would end badly

    Plothole maybe...
Then they'd have to escape on the gondola, and hope it doesn't get cut, ya?
Then they'd have to get off the volcano, ya?

I keep imagining you with an accent when you wrote: ya. But yeah, I didn't think of that. However like someone said earlier they could've attempted to catch up with Zuko and everyone else. Disable all the guards, use the gondala, and then catch up to them. IDK.

hard for Mai to escape(if not impossible), Ty lee would have reached Zuko and asked to join them

as I said again, Ty lee chose to stay with Mai

and I am almost sure that Azula would put in reports that it was Mai's uncle fault, and he would be simply demoted, or he himself made prisoner

They were COMPLETELY and I mean 100% surrounded by firebending guards. Not even Ty Lee with her pokes of doom would be able to get out of that.

It was near impossible to get away. The only mortal person on the show, that might have had a chance to get away was Aang, and that is only if he has his glider.

Against the Tera team, they were spread out thus, she was not surrounded by them.

wonder how ty Lee got rid of all the admirers that surrounded her in the beach episode inside chan's house? and I wonder how she was able to so easily reach the gondola and fight Suki?

you can't compare the bioling rock and its guards to some goofy teens. that place was impossible for her to escape. there are too many guards not only directly surrounding her, but also scattered around the place. she'd have to take down all of them because they would just cut the gondola. and fire is much more destructive than the earthbending

Azula, finally abandoned by everyone she's even known. It's not like she doesn't deserve it, what with her pension for suffering and cruelty and all (you know you love it!). But really, how else could she have possibly turned out? Zuko's the good one and it took 3 years of daily berating from Iroh on top of 13 years of nurturing from Ursa to get him turned around. So, you take her inherited sociopathic personality and add to it 14 years of intense souless human weapon training, and yeah, you pretty much get what she is now. It's a good thing Ursa tried to guide her, oh wait, she didn't. Nope, Azula's own mother gave up on her, deserted her in the middle of the night, and probably called her a monster right before leaving the palace. If that happened to me I'd probably be dead inside too. Shoot, I'd be thowing brushes at mirrors all over the effing country!!!

They have to give us that last bit of character insight before her inevitable and amazingly epic self-destruction. Azula has to meet her mother before she dies.

I do think she gave up on Azula very quickly. And I think the good side of the family just surrendered Azula's soul to Ozai. I think that did hurt Azula a little bit.

But that being said, I think Ozai was going to win that fight anyway, but would have been nice if Ursa just tried a little harder, even though I don't think it would have made a difference.

The way it could unfold, before Aang fights Ozai, Zuko and Azula fight. They have an epic battle, and Zuko wins, Zuko has the chance to kill Azula as she is in a helpless state unable to defend herself. Zuko (which should be no surprise he has done for a a-hole like Zhao before) spears her. Azula crawls back to Ozai in terrible shape needing medical attention and emotional support from Ozai. Ozai being the person that he is, is angry at Azula for embarasing him, and attacks her.

Ozai is about to finish her off, when the heros show up, Zuko attacks Ozai to protect Azula from anymore damage. Ursa than appears and helps Azula crawl out of the room while Zuko is shielding them from Ozai, and the three of them go to another room to talk, while Aang and Ozai begin their epic fight, and I don't have to tell you what happens there. Zuko, Azula, and Ursa talk, and they all make peace with each other. Unfortunitely Ozai did to much damage and Azula dies.

You forgot to inculde an uber, mega epic battle between Iroh and Ozai when the comet shows up.

Well Azula has nothing to do with that. I was just my two cents on how the Azula part fo the story could end.

The ending you wrote will have me crying if that happens. They talk and make peace and then she dies? TT__TT It's too much like a Jet thing for me.
