God, I can see them doing just that... Yes, that's what she needs - some "brotherly love"... Screw Maiko, Azuko forever!!

In fact they were doing almost precisely that, after Ba Sing Se. In the royal gardens, feeding ducks and whatnot 8=)) I bet there was tea involved at some point as well.

maybe she just needs to find someone; who's as crazy and wacked out as she is. True love will fix her up.

Yeah... though she's not completely wacked (it's a condition, not a permanent trait I believe), but hooking up with a genuine villain and causing some mayhem would definitely be therapeutic for her... in a bad way 8=)) Seeing that the Avatar world is really short on villains after the finale, how about some "fatherly love" instead? Ozai and Azula breaking out of prison would be sweet - he'd provide the brains, and she the brawn.

I always saw her as the brains AND the brawn where as Ozai hardly ever did much.

Not much brains left in her current state. She'd be too depressed to do anything without proper guidance.

Excuse me? Taking the throne by murdering his father and exiling his older brother? Maintaining a totaltarian state with a loyal population, a smoothly functional military-industrial complex, and the capacity to invade/defeat/occupy the rest of the world? And don't forget that Azula herself is mostly Ozai's creation, a tool forged and skillfully used by him just as she uses others to meet her goals.

If it wasn't for the divine powers of the Avatar, Ozai would have been Lord of the world, and he achieved it mostly through his own deeds.

But he couldn't have done that without Ursa's help, which he only received because Zuko's life was in danger. It was only then that he could put all his plans to action.

katara was fighting azula, I was wondering "why the heck doesn't she just bloodbend her?" I mean, seriously, after that crazy old witch lady from the puppetmaster taught katara how to bloodbend, the only person katara did that on was the guy that she mistaked as her mother's killer. What the heck? Katara could've defeated the azula AND the firelord no problem. BLOODBENDING!!!!

    THAT'S WHAT I WAS THINKING!
but i just figured that the person had to be standing still and close enough for her to concentrate and begin the process. Then again, she might've just not wanted to use it.

Exactly. Katara could only use bloodbending during the full moon when here powers were at their peak. Sides, I think you really have to hate someone to use bloodbending and Katara didn't hate Azula nearly as much as she hated the guy who killed her mother.

Yes, he used the life of his son to make his wife do the incredibly dangerous task of murdering the Fire Lord. Sounds like a very pro-active machiavellian thing to do.

If he was apathetic and useless, as PhilosopherSo implies, he'd ignore the opportunity, either out of fear or pure apathy. He, however, viciously jumped at the chance to grab the crown, nevermind the horrible cost. Makes him quite a lofty villain in my books.

I'm not too sure, she obviously hated her mother's murderer more but when fighting "honour comes after the fight". Azula was fighting to kill.

I just want a clear opinion or answer here, dont know if this has been asked, but do any of you believe, because i do, that even if azula was in her normal state that zuko could have taken her, the reason being that even though she had "snapped" her power was still the same yet her thinking and skill had been weakened in her crazed state, but even before the epic fight between them, zuko had proven he could go toe to toe with azula and fight on equal if not better terms, so what do you guys think?

It's kinda funny how out of my two posts on the previous page, the short humorous kinda senseless one got attention, while the long serious one didn't generate any reaction as of yet. One of the questions I addressed there was whether Zuko and Katara's victories over Azula in the finale were legit, and whether they could have still triumphed if Azula kept her senses.

The conclusion was that while the insane Azula definitely lost the 1-on-1 Agni Kai to Zuko, the sane one would probably not have lost, but neither would she be able to gain the upper hand, as their previous fights after the Firebending Masters demonstrate. However, had she been sane, she'd also have the aid of the Dai Li and the Imperial Firebenders, and we all know she never hesitated to use allies to secure victory. My take is that she'd make a nice trap like in Crossroads of Destiry or Day of the Black Sun, and would have definitely defeated both Zuko & Katara through a combination of personal power, allies, and tactics.

he never showed that he could fight on better terms. except in the finale

but no, he would not be able to beat her. she's a more skilled bender and she's smarter, faster, and more agile. i think that fight would be close given zuko's rapid improvement, but he wouldn't have won if azula was sane

From the glimpses of her childhood, you could tell Azula was always evil - the fire nations version of the "bad seed". She never seemed to want her mother's love or approval. All mothers try to love their children equally, but you can't control how the child responds to that love. Power was all Azula ever seemed to care about. Power and controlling people. After Mai and Ty Lee turned on her, she may have finally realized too late that there is more to life than having everyone fear you. personally, but i didn't feel sorry for Azula at all. Seeing her chained up did make me pity her situation briefly, but i think she got her just desserts. Apparently I am in the minority!!

"And when she fell apart in the end, the way he looked at her, to me, didn't show sympathy. I'm not saying it showed malice either; but comparing his expression to Katara's, it's different."

There was obvious pity in his look for me. But it was different from Katara's, yes, because he knew Azula and how she was and he always knew that this breakdown might happen. The point I made is, now that it has happened and over with, Zuko will most likely try to make attempts to heal her, as Bryke said she has a chance for healing.

Look, I think it's obvious that Azula's a tragic villain and we're supposed to pity her in the end and not continue hating her, ala Vader and Gollum, but that still doesn't make her a...well, Draco in Leather Pants.

*Sigh* Again, Sozin's Comet Book Interview. Bryke confirmed that Azula was NOT born evil and that she DID want her mother's love. Yes, power and controlling people became all she cared about and she was pure evil then, but the fact stands that it was because of childhood corruption, not anything as black and white as "she was born evil".
