Everyone seems so pessimistic about these movies - I think we should do the opposite, and be optimistic
Seriously, Shyamalan is really confident about this movie. Granted, Shyamalan is confident about all his movies. But for this one he is even more confident than usual - at one point he was quoted as saying that he thought that this could turn out to be the next Star Wars. So far we have all been praying that he manages to come somewhere close to that. But instead, what I think we should do is ask: what if he turns out to be right?
What if Avatar does indeed turn into the next Star Wars or Lord of the Rings - and for the first time it's potential is truly recognized? Needless to say, after that Avatar is saved. It has been several years now since the last Lord of the Rings and Star Wars movies came out, and games, special editions of the books, and other such things are still rolling out. If The Last Airbender does turn out to be a big hit, the original series will be brought back and praised as no other TV show has ever been praised (prior to the release of the movies, the Lord of the Rings was considered a very average series, and now it is considered by many to be one of the greatest works in all of English Literature). If Shyamalan and Bryke can pull this off, the other shows that we have clashed with for so long won't even be able to touch us.
Of course there are a few things that the movie will (in my opinion) need before and after it is released:
- Play down the connection with Nickelodeon. Although it would be great if Nick decided to support the movie with a lot of advertizing, I think that it would be most helpful if people didn't know about the Nickelodeon connection.
- An awsome trailer is a must. Somebody should recommend some of Raven's trailers to Shyamalan - if adapted for the movies it would probably help tremendously.
- Even if we, the original Avatards, hate the movie, we must support it. The first Lord of the Rings movie was almost killed when it recieved scathing reviews from the fans of the original books. The same thing must not happen with Avatar - popularity is popularity after all.

say what?
honestly you need nick on the frontlines promoting this thing. that's how people find about, companies decide to sponsor it, it gets $$$. lol ever notice how movies with little promotion ie: the movie, idiocracy , don't get regonzized for how truley great they are.
idiocracy was a genius movie, and got big underground and on the indie scene (which isn't very big at all lol) all because FOX decided not to promote it.

But I think what Axrendale is trying to say is we want to expand the age limitations of Avatar. Nick promoting it would only tighten those limits. I think it'll be advertised on MTV, though. I mean, it is an MTV Film, correct? |
nick owns MTV silly =p

NO WAY. WTF. WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN!? Ahahahahaha. DAMMIT! I guess it depends on the rating the movie will have. M. Night usually doesn't do kid movies. It might be PG-13. EPIC. |
lol its always been that way. they created it. actually one of my friends mothers helped create MTV.
if nick thows lots of $$$ in M'sham's face, i'm sure he'll make it PG
I just read a quote that apparently Shyamalan said, it goes 'Oh, it's gonna be like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings,' but it's not really like that. It's its own thing..."
I infact do hope that it is like Lord of the Rings (though sorry fellow Avartards I don't really see that happening.. because the LOTR trilogy was beyond epic) but I hope its not too much like the harry potter movies. I am a very big fan of the harry potter books but I always felt that the movies were discontinuous, missed important story points and just didn't do the books any justice..

Oh yes, the Lord of the Rings was absolutely epic, and I believe that Avatar is capable of reaching similar levels of epicness if they do it right.
Personally, I have always thought that Avatar would have done for better as a series of movies rather than a TV show. It has a clear storyline that demands to be gotten on with, not broken up into 61 episodes. There's a reason why the phrase "filler episode" has become associated with Negativity in regards to Avatar, and there is a reason for that.

In all honesty, I hope that we can achieve something close to the Harry Potter movies. Although they were a let down to the readers, it considerably promoted the whole entire series. HP became infinitely more popular after the movies. I can take a few holes in the plot line and some missing character development if it means the series will be promoted |

I'd much rather they leave out those things and include more important stuff. I want as much plot/character development as possible. The fortune teller, though, might be included because of the whole Kataang moment. |
well if they included EVERYTHING the movie would be like 9 hours long lol.
