WHAT !?!?!?! this is **** ! Its gonna be the worst movie ever made, sincerly, they should take americans in an asian world instead, its gonna be a real crap, worst than the power rangers. Why they are so stupid, they made a great cartoon, but they are going to blow the franchise with that ****.

Even the japanese take americans models for their characters in videogames.

I would have to wholeheartedly disagree on that one. I love that they are using an asian actor to portray a character that lives in a world that is based on asian culture. It makes perfect sense that they would do that.

And what's so wrong with using an all Asian cast??? I just can't understand why so many are against the idea. There are plenty of great actors who are of Asian decent. Besides, there are a lot of movies that call for a certain ethinc appearance for a character. And there are even more strict standards when one is adapting a tv show into a movie. You pretty much have your characters appearance choosen for you, and its just a matter of finding a match that is as close as possible and has the talent.

Personally, being african-american I get a little tired of seeing television and movies dominated by one type of ethinc or racial group. A little more vairety is ALWAYS a welcome change for me may it black, asian, or latino.

I have complete faith that Mike and Bryan know who they want for their movie. And if Jonathan Nguyen takes the role, than more power to him, and I will be cheering him on all the way!

Who said anything about it being all white people? I'm a white guy, and I love watching movies with and without white people in it. Matter a fact, I think it should be a combination of all types of people in the movie. If they did make it all Asians I can't say I would be tremendously bothered by it, but I think I would prefer a variety. It's just that when a lot of people look at the pic provided of Nguyen they don't see Aang. It's that way for me anyway.

Ok, what isn't making any sense to me is why there should be a variety of ethnicities in a movie that is based on asian culture with characters that look asian? Why? Someone explain to me why they think there should be a variety of ethnicities aside from various asian groups in this movie. Please? I just don't undrestand.

I'm cool if this movie has an entire asian cast or not. If all are Asian, I hope they can speak English well. If not, then I hope that all that are selected are selected because they were a perfect fit. It's kinda of wierd when you look at the characters of Avatar because some look Asian and some look American. Some sound Asian and some sound American. Others look and sound like neither. Would it be completely rediculous if they just mixed it up? I mean after all thats what the cartoon does.

Waterbenders: Southeren Pole- Native American, Notheren Pole-Asian, Swamp- Redneck.

Firebenders: Zuko, Zhao, Ozai, Tylee- caucasian, Iroh and Mei- Asian

Earthbenders: Residents of Omashu- caucasian, Residents of Ba Sing Se- Asian

Airbenders: Well, they look like Monks.

I'm not saying the movie should do it just this way, but if mostly everyone was dark complected would it matter?

This is why. Do you disagree with the way I view the characters?

Call me a racist if you wish but in all honesty Aang, Toph, Zuko, and most of the main cast look white to me. But then again, I grew up watching cartoons that weren't afraid to emphasize the distinction in Asian facial features.

Apparently because Avatar is based on some asian themes, and it's "anime style", all Avatar characters are Asian.

But, they dont have the same voice, plus its so stigmatized, its like taking a asian cast for resident evil, silent hill, or the grudge, the ring, etc... The americans made their own version, why this time they are going with this idea ?!

Its going to be the DOA on the screen, Death Of Animation. Because this movie suck hard !

hm, i think this quote from MJ's famous song is relevant: "It doesn't matter if your black or white or asian"
ok, i added that last part it, but i think you guys get the picture.

Most important thing for me would be thier acting ability, and apperance would come 2nd.

Also if I may add, I beleive the movies will be "based" on the cartoon, and so Shaymalan might not even opt for "similiar-looking" actors, his most important factor may be thier acting ability. Shaymalan has the most control over the movie, and he can change it around as much as he wants.

Of course, because they took an american cast, wich is not the case with avatar. BTW, Dead or alive was terrible, worst than Mortal kombat can be.
