A Review of What Can Get You Banned From the Avatar Forum on TV.com

In light of recent events it might be helpful for us to discuss what precisely can now get an Avatarian banned from TV.com.

What is fairly obvious are the rules and regs from the TV.com TOS.

    TV.com TOS: http://www.tv.com/feature/tos/

But what is now less known are the subtle nuances which can also end your backside in a sling which many of us honestly had no clue could also end in a banning.

For example did you know that correcting another forum member's spelling errors and/or grammar can result in a ban labeled as 'trolling?'

I didn't know that either. However that's exactly what happened to SgtHydra.

Did you know that using the term 'in before the lock' whether writing it out or posting a graphic, can also result in a ban? This is what happened to Nalesnik.

These are things which have regularly been utilized for YEARS on the forum but are now considered 'disruptive posting' and can result in a ban.

I am not starting this thread to argue these changes with the TV.com moderators, but I am starting this thread to inform Avatarians that what once was considered acceptable is no longer the case and quite unintentionally any one of us might back into a ban without even realizing it happened.

I would ask you to please share any experiences you have had that may not be as clear and obvious as the TV.com TOS which resulted in your being given a warning or violation of the TOS. Perhaps if we talk about them here we can avoid losing any more members of our community to the banhammer.

Please remember I am NOT starting this thread as a rant or to incite a riot, instead I am hoping we can benefit from one another's experiences and avoid incurring any more difficulties with the TV.com mods as a result. Every member of the Avatar forum is a valued member of the Avatar fan community. We don't want to lose anyone else. That is the purpose of this thread.

I've gotten some warnings for using "inappropriate language". Which is sort of understandable, but I don't usually use anything really bad and if I do, I'm very careful about it.

But yeah, it would be terrible to lose anymore people. I miss Sgt's rants and fairly random comments.. :C

with just a quick glance i'm going to go ahead and assume you can get moderated for just about anything. anything that isn't constructive to the topic at hand, anyways.

or if you're a paranoid individual like myself go ahead and assume that there's a team of moderators watching your account's activity around the clock. laughing amongst themselves as they moderate your posts. "haha, i'm so going to ban this guy." "LOL, that was great bro. high-five!"

Disruptive posting is disruptive posting regardless of the reasons or intentions. The times I've been given a TOS violation, I looked back at the posts and realized that they were against TV.com (or were simply disruptive) rules. The mods (well... most of them) are just trying to make a better forum for all.

    Correcting spelling/grammar is bad?

The Grammar Thought Police is not approved by TV.com?

The mods know what trolling is?

    My world is crumbling!

You can also get suspended for telling someone to use to ask a question get an answer thread. The rules here are almost as bad as my unis internet filters.

the "easiest way" to get warnings or worse is simply to "quote an offending post" as mods would take it as you posting it

don't go too far with the pyramids(specially if it is intentional), mods can take it as disruptive

be careful when you are being sarcastic, as you might get a warning as they might take it as you wanting to be offensive; once I wrote sarcastically in a "shipping thread" months ago that you might as well make it a "grouping of everyone together"(the 4 letter word that starts with "or" and ends with gy)and someone reported that

avoid as much as possible acting as a mod at the threads itself, either report it if it went way too far, or PM the offending party as a courtesy to poster, to see if poster listens and eventually becomes a good poster, and to avoid the poster getting warnings and suspensions for silly simple stuff

I believe it is simply quoting the poster to point out their grammatical error. Somebody posting to just say you screwed up isn't very nice now, is it?

So, in other words; don't have any fun..

People need to relax and not take everything so seriously. I have never reported anyone; even the most annoying, arrogant people. Because, the internet really isn't serious business.

    You may not:
    Post simply a picture

Say "First" (Though I've seen where you can't get punished for saying first if you also contribute to the topic, so the same MAY apply for "in before the lock")

Post trap "Rick Roll" links that screw your browser up

I've reported 3 people. I think. I reported that mario guy for posting those nukes everywhere, I reported that guy for accusing me of rape, and I reported one other guy, I can't remember why.

some people report even the smallest thing

I usually don't, unless it is someone who keeps and keeps doing it intentionally, and that is the only way left to stop it
