Well, one of them's actually a drawing.
They didn't mention Koh or Koizilla before the Season 1 finale either. I enjoyed them nonetheless.

It would have been boring if I knew everything coming in the Finale and I was glad they saved the greatest creature for last.

So... I have a question of sorts... Anybody have any thoughts about the fact that Aang didn't kill the Fire Lord in the end? Think it was a creative decision on the part of the creators or that Nickelodeon just wouldn't allow it? I'm kind of leaning towards the latter, because I think DiMartino and Konietzko are very smart and talented and would have forshadowed the way out of killing Ozai long before they actually did. As it stands, the giant creature giving Aang Energy Bending seems like something pulled out of their rear ends at the last minute.
Actually, we were just talking about how the lion-turtle had been foreshadowed throughout the series.
If you want to call a few giant ugly statues foreshadowing.
Exactly. And just because they established that the creature existed doesn't mean they successfully established it as a Chekhov's Gun. When the core emotional conflict of the episode is whether or not Aang should kill the Fire Lord, then it becomes a Deus Ex Machina to have a big turtle come along and give him a way out that doesn't have any consequences. They should have either had him make the choice and kill Ozai or spare his life and live with whatever consequences that entailed. IMO.

Umm, Aang did make the choice to to kill or spare Ozai. He chose the latter.

This is a fantasy world inhabited by mystical creatures and the fact that the lion-turtle was important enough to be shown inside a mystical library and a Whit Lotus member's house, kind of gives one the impression it has unique powers. These powers were probably never specified or left ambiguous so the writers can further explore the origins of the creatures in the spin-off (if it ever gets made).

Or maybe they'll elaborate on it in the DVD commentary. Either way, the creators have stated they like to leave somethings shrouded in mystery because it adds to the whole mythology and leaves things for the fans to lament.

You know how water, earth, and fire all have specials and air apparently doesn't? I just thought of one, kind of. Maybe he can either move very fast, like vibrating, or super-vibrate air and blast it, making it a shockwave. I got this idea because I am a huge Spider-man fan and my 3rd favorite Spider-man villain, the Shocker, basically shoots compressed air vibrating intensely from his gauntlets, essentially shockwaves, which is why he's called Shocker, and then I thought, what if airbenders could do that? Though this kind of sounds silly still, but whatever, just an idea.

ya i was reading another post about that. um i have to say it would be cool if he could, cuz im a spider man fan too. but i dont think Air has a special ability. for Air they just get better. they continue to improve on there Air power, faster winds, the amount of air controlled, ect. and an amazing idea just popped into my head randomly. what if Air's special ability is they can hinder other benders. like bending all air away from a fire bender therefor they cant bend, seeing as theres no oxygen to burn. or do the same thing to make it imposable for water benders to extract water from the air. its defenently an interesting thought. but i still have to say im leaning on the improvement idea

I agree with you totally, because the turtle in general seemed to be a very awkward device used by the creators to make so Aang could have his cake and eat it too. Most likely Nick had a problem with the main character killing someone for the finale of the show. If you notice, none of the major characters, even the bad ones (Azula, Ozai) died. They were captured or otherwise immobilized.

Then again, the fact that Ozai wasn't killed allowed Zuko to ask him where his mother was, which could lead to the plot line of the mini series. So then again it might be a plot device that allowed them to keep Avatar alive longer.

    I have an interesting question...

When everyone said they needed to look for aang, toph said she wanted to go with zuko because everyone else took life changing trips with him.

Can someone name all of them?

But they said "The End" at the end of the episode after Aang and Katara kissed. Still, they could do a spin-off show which they apparently are doing.

they could but they wont. bryke has already confirmed that there will be no S4 although spin offs are a definite possibility.

also making another season would ruin the nick commercials of the series finale. the series finale was the last journey for the Gaang

Aang and Zuko went to the ruins to learn from the Dragons.

Sokka and Zuko went to the Boiling Rock to resucue friends and family.

Katara and Zuko looked for Katara's Mother's Assasin.

Toph and Zuko looked for Aang.

Unlike Sokka, who had to give up all his weapons (which he dearly loved) to save Toph and himself.

At first I thought that he too would have to give up his bending, but the way it was done it still satisfied me.

Can you explain how they could've make Aang spare Ozai and give up something?
