ya....thats what ive been wondering....when katara unfreezes herself to move around to tie azula down...azula's arms were completely unfrozen....why couldnt she just firebend?

All I can offer up is that Katara can move objects (including herself) through solid ice. The ice never actually unfroze - it just appeared to.

no...im pretty sure it was unfrozen...i saw bubbles and it was a different color....see? wait....i just went on avatarspirit.net...and they dont have screenshots for the whole 2nd half of the 3rd season...why? i want to prove you wrong!!!

No need to go about proving me wrong - I'm just tossing some theories in.

The other possible explanation is that being snap-frozen gave Azula a temporary case of brain-freeze that imbolized her effectively for the few seconds Katara needed to get the chains on.

Another explanation is that Azula was still fully submerged underwater and we know that breathing is an important requirement in fire bending so therefore she was not able to fire bend under water.

Zuko was capable of firebending just fine under water back in Siege of the North during his little swim to infiltrate the water tribe

My best take on is it is that Zuko was prepared to go swimming, and Azula was taken by complete surprise.

My take it that it takes time to Azula to fizzle her own attack, all the time katara desparately needed.

I think what happenned is tha that she did to zuko was more encasing him in the ice than actually freezing him. He could talk and breath and kind move in there. Azula was completely frozen. She couldn't move, she had no air around her to breathe...therefor, she couldn't do a super cool move to break out of the ice.

That part of the finale was very unclear. We can assume, though, that the water was somewhat thicker than usual. Whether it was frozen or not, I'm not sure.

Maybe it was slushy water. Like the stuff you slip on going out the door in March.

if it was slushy water Aluza would have been able to move... she did not move AT ALL. So therefore, it had to be frozen.

Her hair did move, though. Just a bit. I wish we had screenshots... I would post some, but I don't have the seasons on this computer.

I further guess that Zuko managed to escape Katara's freeze attack because he he had experience eating Aang's massive ice slide in show 2.

This is the first time Azula was encased in a water attack, as opposed to being grabbed. As she was attacking at the same time, she really didn't know what to do.

the water was frozen then Katara unfroze her side which chain reacted to unfreezing Azula's side but she was in chains before she did anything, and Zuko is better at survival and Adapting then Azula, shes just a powerhouse not much skill, she barely ever even manipulates fire, just throws it around

GREAT post! Very similar to my views- Zuko is the more experienced fighter as shown in CROD of Destiny where Azula was taken off guard by Katara whilst Zuko was her equal

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree with both of. I think, instead of me going on and on about facts, just look at DoBS. Azula lasted against Aang and the rest of the gAang with NO bending. She absolutely is not a "powerhouse". Zuko, in fact, is much less capable than her.

That is all her WITHOUT her bending. Azula can fight quite well. She is VERY agile. And supremely accurate. Remember when she was practicing with Lo and Li and she was just one hair out of place? I'd call that great fighting. Ozai is a powerhouse, not Azula.

Actually, that's running, not fighting. I don't remember her ever fighting in DoBS come to think of it.

Running is used in fighting. You can tell how agile she is and how she uses her surroundings so effectively. This just proves that she doesn't need her firebending to be invincible. Being agile is a HUGE part of being a skilled fighter, and Azula has that part down, along with originality, power, and surprise.
