Zuko just doesn???t fit the profile of Fire Lord, sorry! But that doesn???t mean he won???t have an important destiny, here???s my say. In Avatar there are all sorts of undertones and symmetries if you can pick up on them, such as peace vs. war in the rivalry between Aang and Zuko. My English teacher would roll his eyes if he knew I was getting so much out of a cartoon, but that guy said he???d teach a class on LOST if he could. It comes down to what you get from a story, and fantasy novels and animation are the junk I turn to the most. Nothing on TV beats animation is what my surrogate sister says. Anyways, here are a list of main character undertones and themes I???ve picked up on so far. Aang; The chosen one, the savior. Is there any folklore that DOESN???T have one of these? One of the oldest tradition in storytelling. Katara; The liberated woman. She fights to earn her place in a man-ruled world, not accepting of the role given to her. One popular theme for women in literature is how they fight against and overcome the hurdles thrown at them just because their a woman. Toph; Though new to the crew I think it???s safe to assume she is about the capability and wisdom of the disabled. How many times have you met the all knowing blind one? Sokka; the comic relief. Sokka: Hey! FC: Just kidding. The coming of age, youth struggling to find his place. As for Zuko does anyone recall Plato???s allegory of the cave? A race of prisoners chained and facing a wall all their lives, all they know of reality is the darkness and the shadows on the wall. Suddenly the chains for one prisoner break and he leaves the cave. For the first time he sees nature, animals, the sun, the light, he sees reality. The Fire Nation is the race of prisoners, bound to the darkness of their reality. Zuko is the prison whose chains are breaking. The stripping of his title, his banishment, cutting his hair symbolizing the severing of his ties to the Fire Nation, even leaving Iroh is a crake in the chain. The chain hasn???t completely broken yet but all in good time. And as Mellomuse said:

You say that Zuko doesn't seem to fit the description of Fire Lord.?? Well, do think that all of the previous Fire Lords (before Sozin)??were evil?
Remember, in the opening sequence (episode 3 and up) Katara says that the "four nations lived together in harmony; then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked."?? If we go further in detail, we are told that after Avatar Roku died, people waited for the new Avatar to come.?? But when he didn't, the Fire Lord (Sozin) took advantage of the Avatar's absence and began a global war.?? The four nations used to be allies (I suppose you could refer to them as that), but the Fire Nation tried to overthrow the others.?? So the Fire Nation wasn't always evil.
Just because Zuko's relatives (Fire Lords Sozin, Azulon, Ozai) were/are evil, doesn't mean he will be evil when he becomes Fire Lord.?? Let me explain.
Zuko will most likely join Aang's group in his quest and be Aang's Firebending teacher. He will also probably help take out Ozai.By doing so, he will be able to become Fire Lord.Even though he cut his hair signalizing he is no longer part of his tribe (e.g. FN), he might make a new government system where these traditions are not remembered (cutting hair, etc.).Plus, he is not truly "evil," he is just "obsessed."?? Azula, however is evil.So you can see, not every Fire Lord is evil.?? It just seems to be those leading the war.?? And thinking Zuko would not make a good Fire Lord because of?? him being evil is just crazy talk.
So you're all saying Zuko will join Aang Gang, become a benevolent Fire Lord and the Avatar's greatest alley? The Jedi??all thought Anakin Skywalker would restore order to the Force.
The role of the Fire Lords is about evil tyrannical power. Iroh and Zuko were meant to inherit the position and power but it was snatched away from them, why? Because they aren't evil tyrants! Sozin, Azulon, Ozai; need I go on? I???ve said it before and I???ll say it again, tyranny and Fire Lord go hand in hand. All the tyrants we???ve seen on Avatar are evil sons of b**ches. We???re supposed to see the Fire Lords as ???the bad guy???s.??? I don???t believe the writers are going to change that light of tyrant, even for Zuko. If done my respect for Avatar will drop significantly.
Forgive me if someone already pointed this out:
But it's been said a billion times in the show, the four nations used to live in HARMONY. I think it's pretty safe to say that there was still a fire-lord back then; they may still be in charge, maybe even still have been cruel, but they still remained at peace with the other nations. But you're right, becoming total allies with the avatar and making everything seem perfect directly afterwards is waaaaaayyy out there.
Maybe after obtaining the title of Fire lord he'll change. Without Iroh because Iroh will clearly die before zuko does unless zuko dies of sickness or murdered, I think no one is there to control him so he goes all power hungry. And here we go again.
Avatar Roku said Aang has done the whole master 3 elements in 6-7 months before. So maybe after a couple of generations it restarts. Maybe not exactly with fire nation but some country will try to take over.
