Well if the cycle is broken and there are no more Avatars then I guess it could prove my point that the Avatar world is our world, just everyone lost the knowledge of how to bend, or since the cycle was broken once Aang dies the next generation of people are unable to bend because they where somehow tied to the Avatar.

And know, that the wood is green.

Avatar Roku said that if Aang died in the Avatar State the Avatar would cese to exist, and Aang is still the avatar, and since he's not dead, the cycle was not broken.

OK, even with the huge cliffhanger, I think I can hazard a guess at what happened.

    Imagine,
if you will, the Avatar as being a normal person with two spirits
inhabiting their body: Their own, and the Avatar Spirit.?? Roku was very
specific (kinda) when he told Aang about the Avatar State.

"If you are killed in the Avatar State, the reincarnation cycle will be broken, and the Avatar will cease to exist."

    When
Aang died, both spirits were killed.?? Using the special water, Katara
managed to bring back AANG's spirit; most likely, the AS is dead.

Which would eliminate the Avatar State.?? Also, when aang dies, the avatar will not be reincarnated, and will cease to exist.

Also, about the tattoos, since Airbender Tattoos are very spiritual, it's possible that the water from the oasis trigger something in the tattoos.

this is the most resonable answer and would tie in with possible later events in he series.. Aang did die.. so did the avatar spirit.. aang was brought back to life with the oasis water.. the avatar cycle was broken.. so there will be no more avatars.. pretty much what you siad.. however I would like to know if aang still retains the power to bend all four elements..

Lightning doesnt always kill people. I believe Aang got fried but what Katara healed was internal injuries. Or that Aangs heart had stopped and she restarted it. Dead? No. Dying? Maybe.

As for the Avatar cycle, if Aang didnt die, it wouldnt be broken. I believe Aang achieved the perfected Avatar state but was interrupted before he activated it.

    Aang didn't die.
How can I be so sure? He was brought back to life, you can challenge death, it would be too over the top. And this show is very realistic, and I don't think the creators are gonna let people belive they can bring people back to life 'cause death is the only definitive thing in the world

I'm not even gunna write another response to the whole, aang died or alive... but I like the reasoning behind the avatar cycle not being broken by black. I really hope it's not broken, but I hope it was just a wakeup call for aang to be careful...

edit: actually I take that back, I'll say it again

First off, In avatar you can come back to life, WATER SPIRIT.

Second, As soon as he was hit by lightning, he collapsed and crumbled in midair, in the avatar state his big avatar died and fell as if it had been shot and killed, he didn't yell as he fell in the avatar state into nothingness, he was killed.

Third, let's bring up jesus and Mary, Katara holding aang looked like jesus and mary, Aang was dead.

Fourth, when she first used her water and nothing happened, Katara started crying, WHY? because aang was dead.

Fifth, why do u think Avatar Roku brought the dying in the avatar state, it's called foreshadowing, there is always a reason for something as serious as that...

Yea, some one brought up that the season beginings and endings are parallel, in season 1 and 2. In season 2, he got a wake up call from roku, now he got a wake up call from Azula to be careful with it. boiled down, aang may or may no thave died, hard to tell, we'll just have to wait and see, but I do know that he didn't lose his powers and that the avatar cycle is broken or what not, why do you think he glowed, his avatar spirit was coming back to him, and therefor he has all his avatar powers and stuff, and that means if his avatar powers/spirit left him, he died, so I guess I'm saying he died, but his avatar state came back to him, its not called water from the spirit oasis for nothing.

Ok, first the Moon Spirit, was an spirit, it returned to life because it was an spirit and part of it was still alive (in Yue)

Second: Aang almost die, he coulded die and the cycle broken, that's what that was all about.

Third: That doesnt have to be related to Jesus and Mary. And in an heretic note we don't know for sure if Jesus die (just for you know, I don't want to star a fight about this)

Fourth: The fact that someone belive someone else died doesn't mean is really dead.

Fifth:?? Everything mention?? in the script has a purpose, I know that. Just because Roku explain it doesn't mean Aang has to die. It was probably to understand the importance of the Avatar Spirit.

And finaly I stand my position, you CAN'T challenge death, what's the point of death if can be reverse? The creators are better than that.

Yeah, but did someone try to waterbend the water into the Moon Spirit? I don't remember someone doing that. If someone id do that, then the Moon Spirit could have survived w/ out Yue sacraficing her life to it.
This couldnt happen because iroh told katara that her healing was useless on the dead

Ha! I didn't remember that, but suports my theory. In the Avatar world, just like ours, you can't challenge dead

well Im REALLY wanting to know the answer..
    but im not sure:
1: You see the avatar spirit die. 2: The moonspirit was just like the avatar: A mortal being, and still a spirit. When the spirit died, Yue recovered it, so it must be possible to recover spirits. so maybe the avatar spirit is recovered too and the cycle isnt broken..
    verrrrry strange.

Yes Aang was killed, but Katara pulled out the awsome Superman water and brought him back to life (I remember his arrow glowing before he opened his eyes).
