Thanks mangafreak5000, I appreciate the fact that I was not alone in my thoughts, glad we agree. And to scoutergirl I must sadly agree, the writers gave us little to work with and even less hope, I guess this time it does not pay to hope. The Zutara moments were few and far between as it is, it would have been tough to honestly believe they would be together, but alas, that did not stop the die-hard fans, a die-hard Zutara fan I am proud to consider myself and one who is proudly so...even now. |
No problemo. And, I don't think that Zutara itself is the problem. I think that the problem is/was the really die hard shippers. Nit the ones who loved their ship with a passion, but the people who refuse to admit when they were wrong or that they lost.
But, I would like to offer messages to both sides on this.
my fellow Katanngers: enjoy the fruits of victory with grace and dignity that will reflect well upon your ships.
the Zutara shippers: acknowledge your loss, don't take any sh!t from the other shippers or flammings, and keep your ship pride.
Oh man, that sounded too much like an Aunt Wu piece of advice, and it wasn't supposed to!

Oh good point, that reminded me of Aunt Wu's prediction, that Katara would marry a powerful bender. For a rabid Zutara fan that was evidence of possibly Zuko, but seeing as they almost certainly had intended it to be Kataang from the beginning, the fact that Aunt Wu said a powerful bender and not a powerful airbender or the avatar was calculated, as it would have revealed the writers hand too soon and left them nowhere to go, specifically sowing a little doubt as the Kataang's future. I guess I never got WHY IN THE WORLD ZUKO LIKED MAI WHEN SHE WAS SOOOO UNREMARKABLE, I never got what he saw in her, her cold demeanor, her lack of any emotion other than anger and apparently "love", (yeah right!) and the fact that she represented his old life, and the her lack of judgement in remaining friends with Azula till virtually the end...oh well, I guess he is "happy now", lets see how long that travesty of a "relationship" lasts...I give it a year tops! |
*laughs* Well, I like to think that Zuko and Mai are a good fit for each other, because they have enough in common to build a sturdy foundation for a relationship, but enough differences so that they are interested in each other...
Because studies have shown that opposites DO attract, but then they repel because they have nothing in common to hold them together. So, Zuko and Mai, being the emo depressing people that they are, have enough to stay together for a while. But, because they are so different (Zuko being hot headed and passionate, while Mai being cool calm and collected) they can continue to be intreged and interested in one another.
Wow, that ended up being a very deep exploration of Maiko. And not just sayin' "It will work out because its canon."
WHOOT for me then! (Yes, I am SSSOOOO modest too!)

While I wholeheartedly disagree with their decision, I understand the writers desire to not have Zuko and Aang battling for Katara's heart while trying to save the world, but THIS Zutara shippper could deal with a little more uncertainty, or really ANY UNCERTAINTY AT ALL as to who the final couples would be, though all the evidence in the Avatar World did not stop me from holding out hope to the very end...then Mai had to show up...I have seldom been more unhappy to see a character as I was when I saw her and Zuko in the same room, I knew then, all hope was gone, evil had won. Anyhoo, on with the mismatched couples!! |
I think that the creators and writers of avatar are the only ones who reall have the say on who should be with whom. I mean for Christ SAKE Its their characters! these are some reasons why [i think] things ended up the way they did with "kataang" and not "zutara" or wateva the hell u crazy kids call it these days.
1. from ep. 1 aang had always had a fascination and love for katara. while for the majority of the time, katara and zuko were enemies. except for that one time in the prison cave, as well as when katara finally forgave zuko. and which in those times there wasnt any true "romantic" hints
2.mai did not die, she was still alive and showed caring for zuko, during the boiling rock. when she chose him over Azula. so if "zutara" happened wat would the writers do with her?
3. during the ember island players, katara and zuko scoot away from each other during the one scene of the play. this gesture kind of shows the feelings between the two is not love.
4. the akwardness between aang and katara had to be resolved. the kiss during the black sun, and the failed kiss during the ember island ep. could not just be left alone while, katara goes off and "realizes this unstoppable love" she finds for zuko, leaving aang emotionally confused would just be a sour ending for the series. unless aang died after defeating the firelord. which did not happen.
5. an unlikely love of the heroin and the ex-villian prince, coming together after a long period of anger and discontent, would make an awesome romantic film or soap opera, it would be too much for the show, and take away from the essence of avatar.
6. after watching allll the episodes in order this past week on the nick toons network, aang and katara, or "kataang" just fitted better. could've "zutara" happened? Sure. but if you string the whole series together, and step back and see the whole picture, you see the flow of events, how a story goes perfectly along in one fluid motion, one interlocking mechanism. from the point where aang is unfrozen to the finale you see so many repeated moments where you see aang trying to win over katara. almost every episode. then you see zuko, who doesnt actually show any intrest in katara, sure they have emotional climatic moments, [i.e crossroads/ southern raiders] but those were over trust issues, that where the writers way to illistrate zuko's self conflicts. not to build "an out of the ashes" relationship.
i kno ive probably made many people mad. fine, crucify me. but just think for one moment, did i want zutara to happen because it was the best for the series as a whole? or did i want it because it sounded romantic, or cute, or [omg if i was katara...]
until next time

Its funny you say that cause if this had been anything but a kids show it would have made more sense for zutara way more sense but alas it is a kids show and of course the producers are going to make the more relatable character get what he wants in the end, i hope though that this live action movie is made so that it expands its audience by trying to relate to its older fans a little more as well, i think that if this show makes aang too darn annoying and immature to realistically snag katara, and for all those people who say zuko and mai have stuff in common are you blind! thats stupid, zuko is only depressed thru out the series cause he lost everything, his mom, his family's respect, and his pretty face, you try being a teenager with a huge scar on your face and no parents to tell you everything's going to be ok, you'd be depressed to, mai has everything and is just a lifeless cow who mopes all the time cause she listens to too much emo music, ya lets see that relationship work! phaaa! i laugh at the writers for making this mokery of a character and pairing her with the deepest most well developed character they created! ha ha ha.

i think that mai has reason for being the way she is its her parents who forced her to act like a perfect doll all the time, and i thought zutara just worked, that my logic behind it, but alas it aint gonna happen now....damz |

This kid doesn't believe in Zutara, he/she's a zootara believer.
