I know, really!! If anything, they bring in MORE money for Viacom, because simply put, it's free advertising at its best!!

This has gone too far. As people have previously stated, the internet is the most prominent outlet for media in this age, and sites like YouTube and Google are huge reasons why the internet is so important. Not only is Viacom losing fans if they win this case, they're probably also losing money, because the internet is a tool where many TV shows gain popularity due to the outburst of message boards like this in recent time, and though they may be protecting against copyright infringement from people who aren't gaining anything monetary by posting their material on YouTube, they're going to hurt themselves in the future. Not necessarily with Avatar or other current shows, but with future shows. I can honestly say that I started watching almost EVERY show I currently watch with great amounts of interest (Avatar being a prime example here) because of hearing about its merits on the internet, and then using YouTube or Veoh or another site of the same ilk to watch a few episodes at my own leisure before going through the episodes that aired before I heard of the show in the same way. If I am alone in doing this, then yes, Viacom has a case. But I think that I'm not, and therefore, Viacom is heading towards a bleak future by pressing on here.

Isn't that a bit much? Then again, no more credit card theft, identity theft, illegal music, etc. Hmm...

This is such a frivolous lawsuit. Does Viacom honestly expect Google/Youtube to remove all videos that have even the slightest mentioning of avatar. The only reason Viacom is pursuing this lawsuit is because google/Youtube has deep pockets. These big companies already get huge tax breaks courtesy of Bush. Now they want to nickel and dime google because of some copyright law that probably has no jurisdiction. That is outrageous. If some copyright law was violated then this lawsuit would have been resolved by now. This nothing more than blatant censorship by Viacom. I feel bad for those who spent a great deal of time in making the videos. Viacom has much better things to do than violate the first amendment rights of loyal fans. This is what society has become. ehh!

Call me crazy but... Maybe we should worry about this until something actually happens. ;p No need to plague yourself with the same negative feelings twice if this does indeed turn out to be 'bad'.

Whoa. Slugg just came out of the blog cave to post on my thread. Woot!

Per the topic: I would agree with many of the posts offered in this thread but most of I agree with the point that all YouTube fanvids do is PROMOTE Avatar, not draw monies away from it.

Lisa, every time you bring a new topic to light, I get a renewed feeling of uneasiness. I dread reading your topics.

Anything I could say has already been said and it would be redundant to repeat it.
