    Sandy and Spongebob are just friends, but doesn't anyone else think it's ironic they made a few episodes suggesting they'd get together? Stephen Hillenburg even said in the Season 1 DVD they were just stunt buddies, but that's where most of the hints began.

    They should bring on a new character, (any species, I'm not picky) who both Spongebob AND Pactrick have a crush on and they fight over her, but of course they end up okay in the end

    The only way Spongebob would ever get a girlfriend is if they made a more adult themed spin-off (like Rugrats got All Grown Up). There's 2 reasons I know Spongebob will never have a girlfriend in this series. Firstly the show is very light-hearted and love will never be a factor. Secondly even if Spongebob and Sandy (or another girl) did tie the knot it wouldn't continue to the next episode since Spongebob has bascically no continuity and the creators would never make a drastic plot change like that.
