No, I'm not some kind of philospher seeking to understand the mysteries of the universe, what I'm asking is why are you here, as in on TV.com.

As we all know, Avatar has a huge fanbase, what I want to know is why. I know it's an epic show and whatnot, but there are lots of other epic shows, and they don't become an internet phenomenon. What I'm asking is why did you come here in the first place? What made you decide to come to TV.com to discuss Avatar: The Last Airbender?

How did you first find out about this place? Why did you stay? If you've migrated from another fansite, why?

So, basically, what made you want to be part of a forum community for Avatar: The Last Airbender?

Well me and a friend of mine were surfing through the channels and an episode of Avatar (season 2-3 break time) was showing and I said wait I wanna watch that, and he was saying that no I don't and I just wanted to annoy him and I said no I actually watch Avatar: The Legend of Aang, and he said ok go on TV.com for a month and surf the Avatar forum and I will believe I will give you ??30 and I said ok, then a few weeks later I was ??30 richer, since I enjoyed it though I decided to stay.

I know at least part of it for me is that I don't know too many folx that are fans of the show enough to want to talk about it in detail. So finding the forums was a good way to interact with other superfans (and find possible spoilers- yes, I'm awful )

    what? this is madness!

on topic: i'm here because i went into the vast expanses of teh interwebz around feb. last year to look for a place online to watch 210 onwards, because the UK was being painfully slow with new episodes. eventually i wound up on TV.com and found the forums.

I remember now...my husband and kids were totally into Avatar. I came to the party late. Even though they were avid fans we still missed all of S1 and came midway through S2. Because the DVDs weren't coming out back then very quickly, we could buy S1 but nothing in S2, so we scoured the internet and found them ALL on YouTube. Back then they were all there, rather wonderfully for those who became fans past the original airdates for episodes.

I remember clicking onto a fanvid on YouTube while I was there made by an Avatar fan named Mellomuse which I think was a tribute to Mako. I remember her mentioning TV.com on YT and basically I followed her back here.

I had no clue that there were ANY Avatar fansites at that time. I didn't even know that TV.com existed.

So basically I came here because of another Avatar fan and their fanvid on YouTube.

Wow, that's so weird how that happened. I've never given it much thought but if it had not been for Mellomuse I probably wouldn't be here. Cool.

I'll bet when all is said and done we won't be the only ones.

    *sigh*

If only Nick understood how powerful Avatar is...'if you build it, they will come.'

i've been thinking about this a lot. i think it's very possible that the long waiting and random episode airings are part of what made the fandom huge in the first place. ironically, it was nick that (accidentally) created the avatar fanbase.

I'm here because I don't have any1 else to discuss avatar with except my cousin who lives like an hour and a half away. I'm trying to get my GF interested as well. I hope she likes the NYCC!

even online, avatar's fanbase is realatively small compared to, say bleach, naruto, teen titans, etc. i still don't get why you guys think this fandom is so huge. it's really not.

It seems huge? I don't think there's a concrete way to know the size of a fandom, lest you really want to try to find out. Not saying I think it's huge, but it could be.
