I have one more question. You keep mentioning Yin and Yang while talking about the Avatar and the Dark Avatar, which makes since. However, as you know, there is a small amount of darkness for every being of light and there is a small amount of light for every being of darkness, as illustrated in a traditional yin-yang. How would this tie in with the Dark Avatar and what is Aang's "dark side"?

As with the definition of Yin and Yang on wikipedia.com, the "seed" of the opposing force is present in each. Neither is completely pure, but it is close enough. The Yin, or Dark Avatar, has enough Yang within itself to keep from being a murderous monster, it represents chaos, it's the person it bonds with that gives it direction, and often the pursuit of causing chaos includes a desire for control and power, which in turn results in evil actions. It is important that the Dark Avatar Spirit itself is not evil, it's the people that it is attracted to that give it it's evil persona.

Yang, or Aang, has a seed of Yin that allows him to take violent action in the defense of others. If any Avatar were pure Yang, they would likely be completely pacifistic.

In addition to my last post, Yin and Yang can change places, so it stands to reason that occasionally our "dark sides" get the better of ourselves. In Aang's case, if his personal dark side gets the better of him, it oculd have grave consequences for those around him.

reminds me of Spider-Man 3(check out the trailer by the way). thats true, i never realized it before, aang is not all yang(yin allows him to inflict damage) so does this mean the dark avatar in the comet is not all yin? azula is not pure evil, things could get worse than her evil, the dark avatar is probably not pure evil either because it has some percentage of yang. so the dark avatar is in spirit form while releasing from the comet, and it inhibits a human--Azula, hmm theres alot of talk about in this field how would it be different if Ozai got a hold of the the dark avatar spirit..?

your theory is coming together, making sense, i want it to be true, but i dont want to know about untill more of the sinister plot is revealed, you know what i mean.

While Ozai getting the DA Spirit is certainly possible, it doesn't really sit well with me. To me, defeating Ozai just shows that the Fire Nation was the tip of the iceberg, and that Aang was essentially duped into freeing his estranged darker half. The reason I feel Azula is the best candidate is that there should be turnabout. Azula is defeated by her supposedly weaker brother, ironically becomes scarred around the eye, and begins a self-imposed exile. The catch is that the catalyst of the war, the Dark Avatar Spirit, falls into her lap, which with her lust for power is bad news for everyone. It's like giving her a way to backup her god complex, is she going to simply usurp her Brother's throne with that kind of power? Hell no, she going to burn the world to the ground, probably both literally and figuratively, and rebuild it in her own twisted image.

Something I forgot to add is that I basically feel that Azula, while powerful enough on her own, would be enabled to be a kind of uber villainess while she has the advantage of shadowbending. When Aang learns lightbending, the powers of shadowbending would be neutralized, but Azula would still be very dangerous, because she would also be able to manipulate all four elements, and likely combine them in decidedly lethal ways, such as combining minerals in the Earth with Water and heating them with Fire to make acid, for example.

Like you said once Avatar and Dark Avatar exist in nature, they would cancel each other out causing no need for any avatar.

I have a question Gantros. If Aang does die while in the Avatar State as stated by Avatar Roku(Episode: The Avatar State), the reincarnation cycle of the avatar will cease to exist--and the world is still not at peace, what will happen then, what if the dark avatar comes to earth after the yang avatar ceases to exist--will this make matters worse?

I don't think that the Avatar Cycle really ends if an Avatar is killed in the Avatar State. I've personally held the belief that only the knowledge and power of the past lives are lost, so the next generation would have to start from Avatar Prime, and that could take generations before anything Avatar-like manifests.

So what you're saying is the avatar gets stronger each time it is reincarnated? *Can you answer my question on the previous page

Well, yes and no, An Avatar appears to draw it's strength from the power and wisdom of the previous lives. However, this only appears to manifest itself in the Avatar State and each successive reincarntion must learn the elements on their own, with their previous lives providing guidance.

so ur saying the avatar state is only affected by most part, by getting stronger

I think I'm going to wait until the "Fury of the Avatar" before I update my theory. But the best answer I can think of is that they would be in balance in that they are both on the world, but the backlash of the long seperation will cause a lot of pain for everyone, coupled with Azula's desire to dominate and now having the power to control all four elements. At this point, the Dark Avatar Spirit is allowing itself to be a tool to further its purpose, to cause chaos and spread chaos. Naturally, Aang would have to balance this equation with lightbending, but because such knowledge has been lost, it's a race against time to find the knowledge to keep Azula from tipping the balance and plunging the world into eternal darkness.
