just a question to the fans of my theory, what do you think the chances are that either "Fury of Aang" or the "Secret of the Fire Nation" (unsure if this is correct title) will at least allude to the possibility of a Dark Avatar and/or shadowbenders?

Let's just say that the chances won't have a need to take Slim-Fast.

I don't really think it's gonna happen at all...

It's ok, I've actually been trying to find someone with flash skills so I can try and make a banner supporting my theory. I have the outline of the animated banner like this:

Basically, it's the yin yang symbol, that splits with the white half morphing into Aang in the Avatar State, then the "camera" pans to the black half, which morphs into Sozen's Comet, then a zoom into the Comet with a fade to black, followed by a pair of glowing white eyes suddenly opening in the blackness. This is followed by a line saying "The Dark Avatar Theory"

So, basically, this would be the perfect ending to the whole Avatar thing because the Dark Avatar and the Avatar's powers would cancel each other out, thus ending the Dark Avatar's existence and ending the Avatar Cycle. Aang could be battling the Dark Avatar and they could each use their strongest attack (whatever it may be at that time...) and since they each are the epitome of darkness and light, in order to maintain balance, they would each need to leave the earth (because if the Avatar remained when there was nothing left to fight, that would tip the balance into light, which wouldn't be a bad thing, but there needs to be balance in the world). The best way to do that would be for them both to "die" due to their attacks and since Aang would be in the Avatar State, the Avatar Cycle would end. What do you think, Gantros?

Not bad, but it reminds me of Demona's curse from Gargoyles. She and MacBeth were linked magicaly, and as long as one lived, the other would live, until one destroyed the other. I don't think the writers of the show would be able to get away with killing off Aang, even for the finale.

You have tought us well Master Gantros. Ah, I can picture your banner, mad cool. I think Secret of the Fire Nation will allude the most to this theory.

I just saw the movie trailer for the "Fury of Aang". "The darkest day" Sokka refers to, as well as that seeking knowledge of it as forbidden, gives at the very least an intriguing argument toward the Dark Avatar Theory. Could the darkest day have been the day the Dark Avatar Spirit was sealed in the Comet?

That's what I was thinking, maybe it was the day Sozin confronted the comet.

I do have a disagreement with this theory, even though it's a good one. The reason they can't let the comet come is because of something that already occured. Apparently,??the fire lord??harnessed the power of the comet to start the war 100 years ago??and deliver a mighty first strike. When the comet returns, Ozai plans to use the comet's power to finish the war.

Sozin used the comet and harnessed it's power 100 years later Ozai will use it to finish the war.

That is a true statement. Where my theory comes in is that Ozai, and the rest of the world, are unaware of the Comet's original purpose was to serve as a prison for the Negative Chi half of the Avatar Spirit, whereas the Positive Chi half is the Avatar Spirit Aang has. The danger of allowing the spirit to escape is that while the Dark Avatar Spirit is not inherently evil, it is naturally attracted to those who would use "evil actions" to achieve their desires, enabling them to achieve those desires on a scale they would not be able to achieve with their own natural talents. This is why the Dark Avatar Spirit was sealed in the first place, it would bring about a time of chaos and destruction each time it's next incarnation reached maturity. Where shadowbending comes is that the incarnations eventually developed a way to bend pure negative chi, which manifests itself by manipulating shadows, both physically and figuratively.

Whether or not the Comet comes depends on whether Avatar goes beyond three seasons. If it doesn't, Comet passes by, Ozai is defeated, end of story. However, if the series does go on another, say, 3 season story arc, a more powerful villain needs to be produced to be able to challenge Aang, who has mastered all four elements by the end of season 3. The way the Comet would most likely be used is that in order to prevent the Comet from being used again, Aang destroys it, not realizing what he has freed. I believe Azula would make a prime candidate as the Dark Avatar because it makes sense that she would risk anything for power.

well, except at the end when Avatar kinda went "Dark", very little in the movie supported my theory. Perhaps the outburst of "Dark" at the end was that seed of Yin manifesting a little, a little taste of what the real Dark Avatar could be like. What I would have liked to have seen was a little more agressive bending on "Dark Aang's" part, much like the General did to Katara did in "The Avatar State".

Just had a thought that maybe this Dark outburst was a remnant of the Dark Avatar, like the seed of Yin in Aang is connected to the Dark Avatar, and therefore the Seed of Yang in the Dark Avatar Spirit is a piece of Aang and those who came before him. A kind of a spiritual link, if you will.

a theory... Sokka said that Firebenders lose there powers during a Solar Eclipse but what if Sozen harnassed the powers of the comet increasing his firebending as a solar eclipse happened completely diminishing his powers wouldnt that create a backlash of energy completely weakening (or by a vast amount) the prison of the 'Dark Avatar'

I hadn't thought of that, very good! My original thought is that Aang gets it in his head, through subtle manipulation, that in order to prevent the Comet from being exploited again, he should destroy it, unwittingly releasing the Dark Avatar Spirit, which in turn falls, literally, into Azula's lap. This in turn kicks off the next story arc for 3 more seasons. Can you imagine how far Azula could take all 4 elemental bending disicplines plus shadowbending (shudders)?

would Azula recruit her "friends" to be her...subordinates? Ty-Li would probably run away(i seem to find the Dark chi clashing with her pink and sunny outlook)??first but i can see Mai liking that kinda power...she is pretty much as Goth as it gets on this show...
