Ok, for you peoples arguing over what canon means.....Tokka, Kataang, Maiko, Zutara, Sukka, Yuokka, Jetara, Aang/Meng, Azula/Chan (or whatever his name was), and Ty Lokka are ALL canon couples. Why do I say this? Because canon means the relationship is recognised on the show or at least by the creators. Even if the relationship doesn't work out or is merely one-sided, its still canon because it is a recognised and legitimate relationship (or at least on one side) on the show.
Fanon is ships like Sokkzula, Katokka and Zukaang. Ships that could seem possible on the show, but are made up entirely by fans. These relationships are not supposed to be part of the show - there is evidence for each to the fans, but the creators never intended that relationship to even appear on the show. Sure, there may be lots of "evidence" for zukaang, but it is not a recognised relationship in avatar, no matter what us fans may think
So there you go. Due to Bryke and the show itself, Zutara and Kataang are BOTH canon - both have either "happened" on the show (i.e. hugs and kisses which can be interpreted as romantic) and both have been recognised by the creators as being possible legitimate relationships.
Of course, in the end, one will be more canon than the other (pressure's on, katara!
), but they are still both canon
