Er, he never technically died. -stares-
He was dead, from the time Azula shot him with lightning up to the point when they were on Appa, and Katara applied the Oasis water.
the avatar spirit is re-incarnated immediately after death! so he couldnt have been fully dead! or there would be a waterbending avatar crawling around!

Actually, if he died in his avatar state, then the avatar spirit would not be reincarnated.

they said in some episode (i think it was the one when zuko had the blue mask on and he rescued aang) that if aang died, then the next avatar would be a firebender and that they would have to find him again. plus aang didnt die, he was in between a coma and death.

It is also said, in the episode, second season premiere, Avatar State that if Aang died in the Avatar State then the Avatar would not reincarnate. Also the necxt Avatar would be a waterbender not a firebender, and there is no in between coma & death, this isn't Harry Potter.

i said around it plus i wouldnt know cuz im not a doctor since he was practically like in a coma. i think he just fell into a coma when he was shot with lightning from azula since he still is the avatar. or maybe its the magical water that helped make him the avatar still.

If you take a lightning bolt right into your spinal cord, you're dead. And yes it was the oasis water that brought him back.

well im not the avatar so maybe hes got some magical spine or something. plus since the water was magical, couldnt it have helped make him an avatar instead of just living??

The water brought him back to life, which also brought back the Avatar spirit and the Avatar State, albeit locked.

Why is this still a debate? AANG DIED PEOPLE! The dude said it himself: "I got hurt, didn't I? But it was worse than that! I was gone. But you brought me back."

The whole Avatar reincarnation thing isn't an issue cuz he was in the Avatar State and the Avatar would've never reincarnated period if Aang stayed dead. Time to put that whole issue to rest. Just like with the full moon in TSR.

This is just the way the creators planned it out to be.
