wut Zuko didnt lose to Azula. We've hardly ever even seen Ozai, so to think he wouldnt do whatever he had to do to destroy his biggest threat is ridiculous. And the lion-turtle has been alluded to before. |
Zuko lost to Azula because Katara was standing around and he had to save her, leaving room for Katara to be the ultimate girl-power embodiment and beat down Azula. I don't like it, seeing as almost every time Azula has appeared, Zuko gets his rear handed to him.
I can see you're arugment for Ozai. Yes, we hadn't seen much of him before, but what we had seen was something to go on. His actions with his father when Iroh failed and with Zuko and his banishment make him appear to be cunning and wise (albeit in the evil way). He was given to us in the finale was some sort of strange Freiza/Cell combination that shed his clothes and flew around blasting people while giggling evilly.
I do not accept that this lion-turtle thing had been alluded too. Statues and drawings do not a Chekhov's Gun make. I would be willing to accept this if there had been a few mentions about stories and legends of ancient powers before the great bending beings (dragons, giant-mole-things, etc.) learned of their own powers and also taught humans. As it stands, there was none of that and this creature came out of nowhere, literally.

the creature did come out of nowhere but i think that it was more a solution to aang's problem than nickelodeon cracking down on the rating.

I wasn't very satisfied with the finale. I am really unhappy about the unanswered questions because it leaves room for a spinoff or a 4th season. I don't really want Avatar to have that because I think it would be a flop compared to the rest of it; it would be a stain on whatever dignity that the series has. I'm not the creators and I don't have their vision, but the big bad is gone. All that's left for them is to do a few sidequests that should have been done in the main series. What will they do now? Go into space (ala Mario and Jason) and destroy Sozin's Comet, which happens to be sentient and shoots giant laser beams? There isn't enough left to do. I was also unhappy with the Deus Ex Machina turtle and the sudden go-nasty-evil-hate-me shift of Ozai. He went out of character from his strong silent type of fear mongering via death glare to evil maniacal maniac. Maybe that was the intent; again, I'm not the creators. But it felt inconsistent he went from dark brooder overlord to rip-clothes-off-shout-insults-DBZ-mode. I don't think that did justice to the character. It only made him appear to be evil incarnate right up against Aang's argument that he is still a human being. Maybe they were going for compare/contrast/blahblah, but I didn't really like it. Granted, we didn't realyl *see* much of his character throughout the series, but shifting from silent monolith to screaming-crazy-Freiza-esque-villain was big. Azula's shift of character was far more believable (though very sudden between her last apperance and the finale). The fight scenes were meh. Aang and Ozai chased each other through a giant canyon, doing uber attacks while the other flailed around helplessly. That's not a fight, that's a masscre. Zuko and Azula had the best fight, but Zuko was denied his due because they wanted to include Katara. I understand that, but I don't think they did it very well. Zuko has lost more fights throughout the series than anyone and he was finally going to take his place as the Firelord by beating down his sister (he already gave up the ultimate fight to Aang). Instead of continuing the paralell between Aang and Zuko that had been going on for the entire series, they shattered it by having Zuko lose to Azula *again*. I see why they did it; they wanted Katara to chain her, for Katara to have some time in the spotlight, and for one last fork-in-the-eye shipping tease to Zutarians, but I don't like it and I think it could have been done better. Also there wasn't enough time for the other characters. Less turtle, more Iroh plzthx. I really wanted to see some back-and-forth between Toph and Bumi. I mean who *wouldn't* like that? The two most powerful earthbenders ever arguing and braggingand just being silly. I like Avatar a whole lot, but this finale was a let down for me. Perhaps it will grow on me, but right now I'm disappointed. |

Uhm ok. Who thinks that the love stories had ABSOLUTLY NO DEPTH TO THE THEM. I was never a katara/Aang fan because it's just weird, and that would make Katara a HUGE cougar lol, (obvi I'm a katara/zuko fan) but regardless, THERE WAS NO DEPTH TO ALL 3 of THOSE LOVE STOREIS! And I know there was "conflict" between Katara and Aang, which was not really just natural indescisiveness, and I know you gotta keep it G for the kids (psh), but still. |
Kataang has allways been there, it just has. She was at conflict with the fact that Aang mite not come back she already saw him being struck by lightning. All she needed was to know was that he wasn't going to die.
