Hey, how do you think Sozin would react if he's seen how his son and his grandson have handled things? He started the war in the name of "spreading prosperity" in the hopes of making everyone happier, but his son, Azulon, has completely altered that statement. Even the Fire Nation itself sees all other benders and races as inferior to their own, and think that the war is to just conquer everything. If they were told the idea of spreading prosperity was behind the war, they would probably laugh.
Though Sozin said this statement, he is also responsible for the near-genocide of the air nomads and the fall of the dragons. Perhaps in his old age he got a little crazy or carried away? He could have also told this to Roku just to try and get him on his side...
Either way, the true goals of the war has been hugely convoluted and hidden, and it is a wonder that the Fire Nation doesn't question why they should continue.

No it's not really "same old, same old." Age-old vetrans of the Avatar forums have been banned for no reason, n00bs come in everyday and make about 7 threads an hour, and people are getting suspended for things like "sarcasm" and "*facepalm*"
Oh, and the absolute power of the mods have corrupted them absolutely. It's a very dark time in the Avatar forums right now, in fact I'm expecting to be banned any day now...

I would, but I don't really know what he/she was like either. Being an editor, the person couldn't be Nazi. I heard people complaine about him/her once in a while but no one went on a rant.
