wow, some people are really committed. I usually try to avoid this treads but there are just too many of them, and this case I guess the episode was relevant.
But seriously guys, some of the stuff people say its just plain ridiculous. Its just a cartoon for god's sakes, way to overly analyse everything.
I thought the episode was pretty straight forward in its message, but I guess some people like to argue, or believe there are right no matter what.

We all know Mai and Ty Lee are very good friends, and would probably not want eachother to die. So yes, Ty Lee did save Mai out of love. And Mai and Zuko clearly still have feeling for eachother, regardless of a sarcastic remark from Mai. And because of that I'm having a really hard time believing Zuko would betray Mai like that after all she did for him, and run away with a girl who he has shown zero interest in, who has shown zero intrest in Zuko. That AND Katara has Aang, the main character, crushing on her. And Zutara would not win a picture war because it has 2 real pictures. Whereas Maiko and Kataang have dozens. |

That doesn't mean "That's my boyfriend right there" or "There's my sugarlumps" or "Hey there chocolate bear," it means "Zuko is an ass for writing the letter and basically dumping me, but I'm gonna help him out anyway because he's my ex and a boiling hot death is too good for him."
Ty Lee cares for Mai as a friend, so Mai can care for Zuko as a friend.
Ty Lee's betrayal actually took moar balls than Mai's. Azula was right there when Ty Lee betrayed. Ty Lee had to knock Azula out without fail. Ty Lee cares about Mai alot more than Mai for Zuko.
If Mai cared so much, why isn't she coming along?

All you "Maikoers" are actually Kataangers who know that Maiko is the only thing preventing Zutara from happening.
Even so, you are all forgetting this:
This isn't a Kataang hug. Its too open for that. Kataang hugs are like a mother and her son. This is like two Adults, in a relationship or not. Its comforting, supportive, and most of all, intimate.
Look at both people's expressions. Katara is clearly seeking comfrot from Zuko (for what, I can't say.)
All you "Maikoers" and Kataangers are just dancing around the facts.
Zutara is canon. And canon in a different way than Kataang or Maiko.
This is not a crush. This isn't puppy love. This is a real ship.

The problems run both ways - BOTH sides have double-standards. Don't put all the blame on zutarians, its just as much the kataangers as us. Yes, we do tend to overanalyse stuff, but so do kataangers. Both sides have WAY too many double-standards for either side to accuse the other.
EDIT: Ugh, I wish tv.com would stop deleting half my posts. Anyways, interesting point about Ty Lee. Afterall, if she hadn't interferred, Azula would probably have killed Mai, thus making all this debate about Maiko pointless. Either way, Zuko has no idea if Mai is even alive, which makes things a lot more interesting

Personally I think that just because Mai and Zuko are broken up at the moment doesn't mean they can't get back together later. It's pretty obvious they still have feelings for each other. I don't like the idea of Zutara nor Kataang at the moment. If Kataang happens I'll be fine with it, but Zutara would come kinda out of the blue. George seems to be really canon now, but I feel a little sad for Toph. That's my opinion.
