sigh.. I hate shippers, but agreed... zutara will never happent though... I have a firm belief (you guys are talkin to a suspected antichrist, so listen up humans) a firm belief that zuko is a racist SoB and he thinks Katara (and everyone else in the gaang) are lower in the evolutionary track if u know what I mean. Why else would the FN be soooo cruek unless they were fightin for their race. The japanese thought the same of the koreans and chinese. I'm not sayin the FN is based on japan, but there are some elements of imperial japan scatter around avatar (eg earth king is seen as a god). katara is not a racist, but hates the fire nation in general. CoD kinda reenforced this judging from her expression during that fight. Am I saying kaang will happen? no... hate that ship too. but only because of the age difference... wait 5 years and I'll be ok with it. I hate all shippers however... I always will. DIE SHIPPER DIE! Excuse me while I kill small animals in nasty ways. ( begins strangling??a squirrel) |

OOOOKKKKKAYYYYY I agree that elements of the old imperialistic Japan are part of the FN during the war-time in the show (last 100years), but there is nothing in the show to hint that the FN people as a whole think that everyone else is less evolved. The propaganda spread by the fire nation is along the lines that the other countries of the world are bad and that its their duty to rule them (this is because Fire lord wants the whole world)for the better. Zuko is presented in the show as an UNDERSTANDING PERSON, he doesnt destroy the tribe of WB even though it would be easy, he doesnt agree that ruling the world is best for the people of the other nations, he cares about his people, he helps a EB town, feeds a ship of EB and the list goes on. He is only after his honour, something he has be taught his whole life is most important. He is rude sometimes, but only when he is in a desperate situation and he is angry and he automaticly says things he was indocrinated to believe ie that food should be given to them when their beggers and that its more important to get Avatar. BUt his actions show he doesnt truelly believe these things fully, and is continuing to grow and learn. HE is NOT a racist. |

I have a theory about the beginning of the Avatar, and not wanting to create a new thread for fear of beheading, i'll post it here. We know that the Avatar didnt appear at the same time as the other benders because each element bending was learnt separately, with the couple of Omashu learning from Badjer-moles, the WB learning from Moon, AB the flying bison, and FN possibly dragons (seems likely as Dragons can create fire). Now the first EBs, the two that watched the Badger-moles displayed amazing bending, with the woman destroying whole towns and building Omashu. My theory is that in the beging, those who reached a stage of enlightenment and discovered their bending in the beging without help in a way were Avatars of their Elements, being the strongest benders, continuing down with their ansestors. Being descended of those with open-minds to the world, when these Avatars had children with one another, their children were blessed with the ability to perform both parents bending to a certain extent. Eventually this lead to the first Avatar, who brock the bondries of the elements and the physical world itself, connecting to the spirit world (the Avatar state). WHen this person physically died, thier enlightened spirit reincarnated itself in one of its blood relations (the element Avatars) who could access The Avatar's spirit (which is why Avatars learn so quickly, they have the knowledge already in subconcious, also why Aang was drawn to those certain toys). SO with each incarnations death, they joined with the Avatar State, strengthning it. It is because this spirit is in itself an external force, that if it dies, it cannot move onto another body. However, whilst the Avatar exists, the descendants of the Element Avatars exist, who have a higher ability to control their elements. With the death of the avatar, it is possible for a new Avatar Spirit/line to be created from these descendants. With Aang missing for 100 years, the ability of the descendants stared to become more dominant again, resulting in the birth of people like Katara, Toph, Iroh, Azula and ZUko; people who have displayed the ability to learn their elements quickly and learn new ways of harnessing it. It seems almost destiny that the Avatar draws these Element Avatars together, first BUmi as a child (who, like the avatar dislays longevity), possible Kuzon (who may be related to ZUko and the Firelords [who were strongest of the fire sages]) and then later the current characters of the show. |
i never thought of that. i always guessed that the first avatar was kinda like adam (as in first man adam), and then after he died, another person would be born etc... but it never occured to me about bending being learnt at different point, so it makes sense that the first avatar was born as someone who had the blood of 4 different benders. but then that gets me thinking this- what nation did the first avatar come from?
??btw, i think that the firebenders got their abilities from the sun- it makes sense seeing as they lose their power during the eclipse.

The first Avatar wouldn't have been in a certain nation, in fact the nations wouln't have been formed properly. My guess that the Avatar Spirit is inherited into the child of the original Element Avatars, but only those strong enough, which my be a cycle itself. Or it just might be the Avatar Spirit balancing itself. Now as for FN, it is possible that they got their ability from studying the sun. However, i believe it is like a Waterbender fighting in the Artic, or a Earth Bender fighting on a rocky slope; its their environment giving them an advantage. In the case of the SUn it provides vital heat and warmth adding to their own body-heat that creates the fire. The act of creating fire i think is from dragons seeing as they do so themselves. With the Waterbenders, it wasnt the moon, but the pulling of the ocean by its gravity that taught them. It might also be worthy to note is it appears that most of the elements were learnt by other creatures eg Flying BIson (who fly by Airbending), possible Dragons (Produce fire), Badger-MOle (who can earth bend), only leaving the Water benders, who may have also learnt from an animal alopng with moon. |
true say my friend. the element avatars bit is kinda confusing though... are the element avatar meant to be the first people to master their elements- if it is, then perhaps between the generations (the element avatars and the first true avatar) there were a couple of people who were able to bend more than one element, but not all four, maybe an earth/water bender and an air/fire bender? im just throwing idea round here...
aha.... i get it now.
while we're here, someone said that in book 3 we learn more about avatar roku, so, what do you think were gonna learn? i tihkn we might learn more about fire lord sozin, and how roku managed to stop sozin from attacking the other nations. (maybe we get told more??about the fire nations history)
??btw, on the ASN timeline, it said the sozin ruled for 80 years (well, it said that azulon came to power 30 years before aang reawakens)
