    Sorry, but I think you're blatantly ignoring the characters in this show. While we're not sure if Katara is in love with Aang, it's obvious she likes him and the show can't make it any more plain. Aang loves Katara, Zuko loves Mai, and that's it. Zutara's not going to happen, period.

    -Aang loves Katara? OMG total surprise.

    -Mai was a school yard crush at best for Zuko. They have figuratively nothing in common. They revealed that much in "The Beach."

    -Even if it doesn't, Katara's going to fall for Zuko if for no other reason than for the writers to put Zuko in that kind of predicament. You have to admit, a situation like that sounds like it'd fit perfectly up Zuko's alley.
    What proof is there that Mai has a schoolyard crush on Zuko? You could basically say the same for Zuko towards Mai, as in the comic that sets up Maiko, he basically confirms they like each other as kids. There's no way Mai just has a "schoolyard crush" on Zuko because you can see whenever she's with him she listens (after learning better from her epic fail in The Awakening) intently to him and supports him. She lets him rest at her house, comforts him and makes tea for him. The problems between Mai and Zuko in that episode had nothing to do with what they had or didn't have in common, it was about Zuko pushing Mai to express herself and Mai telling Zuko that his messed up past isn't an excuse for being a jerk.

    Katara didn't smile after the kiss because they were in the middle of a war. Either one of them could've died and never saw each other again. Katara seems to understand that's why Aang kissed her when he did. Also, if she didn't like the kiss, she wouldn't still be so comfortable around Aang. The show makes it a point of showing that at the end of that same episode when Katara comforts Aang. How much was a kiss going to do? He turned away from her, he didn't want her to see him crying and she probably felt that was not the time to kiss him. Altough it'd be better to say that narratively it was not the time to kiss him. Not much needs to change between Aang and Katara. Katara just comforting Aang is enough for the both of them.

    Everyone is hiding out at the Western Air Temple, and with Combustion Man dead everyone is safe. Notice that they are next to each other even though they're far apart. Again, nothing much really needs to change between Aang and Katara, they're not hormonal like Zuko and Mai. Also, the point of The Firebending Masters was for Zuko and Aang to learn the true meaning of firebending, not to show Aang's relationship with Katara.

    People take debating romance way too seriously, as if the person is insulting their mother. Should Zuko be in for a ride, well we'll all be tuning in. (But he's not getting a ride from Katara.)

    Why would zuko and katara be together? Zuko has no feelings what so ever for katara and katara HATES zuko. Plus the creators even said that zuko and katara ae not supposed to be together.

    You misunderstood. Mai is deeply in love with Zuko, but Zuko only has/had a schoolyard crush on Mai. If Zuko was as in love with Mai as she was with him this whole time, how come we didn't see him have any memories of just him and her during "Zuko Alone"? Or at any other time for that matter. Plus, we only saw Mai having feelings for Zuko when they were little kiddies. Does the phrase "Girls are crazy!" ring any bells?

    So, you're saying that she liked the kiss, but it didn't really mean anything to her because she thought he did it because they may never see each other again and it was just a very big thank you. Is that right?

    I know what the main purpose of the episode was about. They don't have to be face-sucking as much as Zuko and Mai were, but I figured that a new couple would be sitting shoulder to shoulder.

    It's not a double standard at all. Katara's opinion about Zuko has been like this for the past year: Enemy - brief ally against Azula ("The Chase") - Enemy (Part 1 of CoD) - Some positive role whose specifics are debatable but still a positive roll - Enemy - Ally that she doesn't like.

    Meanwhile, her feelings for Aang have been: Friend that represents the hope of the world.

    Her opinion about Zuko keeps changing. Her opinion about Aang has stayed the same and I don't see it changing anytime soon.

    No, it didn't get past me, just like the moment where the fortuneteller said that she didn't see anything about love in Aang future didn't get by me either. Also, she didn't passionately kiss him back. She just stayed there kissing him.

    I hate the idea of Zutara because considering the ammount of plot points I actually care about (I don't care much for all the romantic plots) and how things are setted up I just consider it bad writing if they pull it off in 8 episodes. The end of season 2 was THE moment to either put it or not. They didn't so I don't like the possibility (not that I ever did, just that before I didn't care and now I just plain don't like it as canon) It's eassier to "fix" Maiko for the fans that pulling out Zutara. Zutara as fanon is ok wih me though. Everyone has a right to ship whatever they want. It's not wrong to like them together in our fanon wet dreams if that's your thing.

    Now, come on. No reason to be mean. As long as the show doesn't pull it out of it's behind at the expense of actually cooler stuff than shipping (Like Iroh kicking major behind! YAY! Or a zombie Suki attacking the gaang! Oohh ohh!! The Azula/Mai betrayal and the destined Zuko/Azula and Ozai/Aang fights. *drool*) (Ahem) Anyway, what was I saying? Oh, Zutara's not bad but there's no time to actually develop it into an actual romance considering all the things we are meant to see and all the things they would have to "fix" in order to pull it off. Seriously what's more important? Major and epic fights or pulling a romance? If you want a dramatic romance think of how would it be if Suki is a zombie now and Sokka has to fight the woman he loves. Now that's a dramatic romance with a fight that will have Suki at her best. (sigh)
