Sure, that would make Aang like many of his fellow heroes--although it's usually the male getting two or more girls (Sokka getting Suki, Yue, and Toph; Danny getting Valerie, Paulina, and Sam; Robin/Nightwing getting Batgirl/Oracle, Wonder Girl, and Starfire; Beast Boy getting Terra and Raven; Sonic getting Sally and Amy (or any other female in the Archie Sonic comic universe); Mario getting Pauline and Peach; et al)--but that's the way things go, it seems.
Of course, that begs the question: "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?"

With this logic..zutara wins! Because in most of these cases, the first and obvious ships die..and in this case, Kataang would be that ship..LOL |
Because of the variety of continuities, each of them would have different writers, producers, and editors who--just as we fans do--see characters as being paired up with other specific characters, including ones that often deviate from the original source being utilized.
Luckily, in this case, I see Kataang enduring, because outside of the film versions and a possible use of it in the new program being devised, Avatar: The Last Air Bender is--at this point--over, with Kataang being victorious.

Not really. After all, many of the ships I listed exist in various continuities (ex: the Sonic universe has the Japanese game canon where it could be construed as SonAmy, but the Western Sonic comic canon is so that it is SonSally, given that the comics take much of their historical significance from the properties that had Sally--starting with the 1991 introductory comic printed by Sega of America itself, followed by Britain's Sonic the Comic produced by Fleetway, the cameo in the Christmas episode of AoStH, the entire SatAM series, the ongoing American Sonic comics made by Archie, the cosplay stage show that was presented within Sydney's SegaWorld theme park, and the breif appearance in Sonic Spinball--prior to Amy being purchased from manga company Shogakukan by Sega in late 1993; Mario was with Pauline in the first-ever Donkey Kong game, but once Mario got his own franchise, Pauline was replaced by Princess Peach Toadstool; Although based on The New Teen Titans comic line where Terra betrayed the team and Beast Boy & Raven were growing closer but were not the 'it' couple yet, the 2003-2006 animated series starring the Marv Wolfman era Titans ended with the storyline regarding a return for the geomancer ["Terra II" in the comics, just before Young Justice--which is now itself becoming a cartoon--was conceived and thus, before Beast Boy/Raven became official as a shipping, because a lot of the members of Young Justice became the newest Titans when Raven made her move to have the changeling for herself]; Richard Grayson does live up to his name by alternating between Barbra Gordon and the Tamaranian princess on a daily basis these days; Danny clearly wound up with Sam by the end of that particular series; Despite it being obviously Casper and Wendy in the mind of Harvey Entertainment--as seen here, here, here, here, and here--Universal would desire to play off The Friendly Ghost asanno-longer-livingcasonova, ditching The Good Witch for practically any type of girl Universal opts to put him with; et al). how do you know they lasted? Just because they kissed or whatever? Sokka and Yue kissed...now look at their relationship

...and hinted at slightly through the adversarial relationship the two had on the programs (i.e. whenever they were together [ex: Cuffed], something interesting was bound to happen and it was proven that just as Chuckie seemed to be fond of the bullying type [ex: Cradle Attraction], Angelica seemed to hide feelings for the type that she could control through her dominance [ex: Pre-School Daze]).
Anyway, the point is that what is official in the eyes of the creators goes, since they're the ones who created the franchise to start with. Not that that doesn't mean people still can't dream about their favorite ship--non canon as it may be--though. XD

...you're comparing Kataang with Chuckie/Angelica? You need to put a "jk " in the end of your posts or people will think you're serious XD |
Most of the others were from Angelica's standpoint, so I figured I'd have one from Chuckie's as a companion piece.
Via moments in both programs (also with thanks to Craig Bartlett, since he was signed on to write the original 60 episodes of the original series and his ideas stuck, even when he left)...
Plus, there's still thatlittle fact I mentioned earlier about Chuckie liking the bullying type and Angelica being fond of the type that she can control. As well, official webcomic artist, Jonathan Sario (creator of Fuzzy Things) patterned two of his characters--wolf girl Mahr and lamb boy Bleet--after the relationship Angelica and Chuckie had. He also did some Chuck/Angie pieces himself in his spare time...
Another interesting tidbit for any fans of the primary antagonist of Rugrats/All Grown Up would be that Cheryl Chase (voice actress for Angelica) is pushing for an unrelated adult program to air on one of the networks, whilst also running her own online dating service.
Anyway, back to Avatar, Kataang is canon and until proven otherwise, it is likely to remain that way. ^-^
Kataang is canon, there's no denying it except for lulz since Word Of God confirmed it, Angelica/Chuckie on the other hand wasn't confirmed by word of god, nor did the characters every reveal in absolute way feelings towards each other in any of the main series.
Kinda like how Beast Boy loves Terra in the Teen Titans series, and not Raven.
Umm...BB/Terra was comic canon for the era the cartoon was influenced from (the comics' writer, Marv Wolfman, was even the show's writer-consultant) and really, the show was essentially the 1980's comics watered down into a family-friendly form, whilst still trying to be its own thing (by utilzing the "Team of Five" dynamic used in Japanese anime).
Comparison shot of the two versions of the Terra arc
The New Teen Titans comic line: A Shipper's Nightmare
**According to Marv Wolfman himself, the show's take on his characters both was and wasn't a representation of his work.**
With that said, it's no surprise that BB/Terra lasted as long as it did in the cartoon (even when the comic Terra turned out to be a chain-smoking, sex-with-Slade-having whore with psychological issues and we know that would've never ever been shown openly in a show primarily aimed at children with standards as they are these days). But with Young Justice itself now becoming a cartoon series, the chances of getting an eventual Titans cartoon based on Geoff Johns' era (since a lot of YJ members became the newest Titans at that point)--complete with BB/Rae in it--should increase highly.
However, to be frank, it sometimes is that a couple doesn't have to be direct to exist. A lot of the greatest pairings have come out of subtle moments. Heck, even most of the direct of them started out in subtle ways at first, it seems. After all, Craig Bartlett essentially conceptualized Chuckie/Angelica as a writer for the original series and we all know that before he was let go, he was heading Hey Arnold in the direction of a Arnold/Helga relationship, saying that it was always the primere pairing in his mind well before Helga's obsession with her football-headed Adonis even existed within the series.
