Magma/Lavabending! What element is it, or SHOULD it be a part of? Fire or Earth?

Fire

Okay, there has been a lot of debate about this, but what element should be able to bend it... I know it's tempting to say both, but could you please try and only name one element for it to be a part of... Thanks!

Earth and only earth can control magma/lava. Fire can only control the energy in something, not the actual thing. If we go by the theory that firebenders can bend magma/laval, then you're also admitting to them being able to bend the sun or various comets and such. Can they bend the sand simply because it's hot? No. So, therefore, they can't bend magma/lava.

But Firebenders can control lava - it has been shown in the show many times as a firebending technique.

I think It's like mud. Eartbenders and waterbenders can bend it (remeber the mud fight?) I think in Avatar & the Firelord they bended the lava. I'm not sure. So, both.

Shouldn't doesn't really matter when it is. But I don't think it's only fire, it's only firebenders who we've seen.

If earthbenders could control it, then don't you think Aang or Toph would have done so in the underground bunker during the eclipse?

Since firebenders control heat energies, it makes sense for lava to fall under their category. If it cools enough for the rock to reach a solid state, then the earthbenders could manipulate it.

But HEAT ENERGIES. Magma itself is not heat. It contains heat, but it isn't heat.

Fire and lightning are ionized gases. Guess they should fall under air then, huh?

    I guess it's Firebending...

Scientifically, what do you guys think it should be a part of?
