I know I'm going to get a lot of negative responses for this, but I really think he deserved to die. Or at the least, get seriously injured/permanently crippled or scarred. I'd do the same if a member of my family or someone I loved was murdered. It would be necessary.

Its true what the man did was horrorable but killing him the old man wouldn't bring her mom back or make her any better then him.

He did get permenently scarred. He was obviously weak and emotional about it inside when Katara left him. Now he'll be filled wwith fear and guilt for the rest of his life.

He is also stuck caring for his crabby mother. Its poetic justice.

Okay, true, killing a murderer doesn't bring back the people they took away, but it still gets a murderer off the face of the earth. That, and I guess it would bring some closure.

Yeah he really did deserve it but revenge is never the answer. It is a good thing that she found him though, just reveal her withheld hatred and rage.

That's another reason I wanted her to kill him. The whole "revenge is not the answer" routine has been overdone. If she killed the guy, it would have brought a great change to her character. There could have been an episode dealing with the aftermath and how the others in the group saw her, what Katara's father thought, ect.

That brings up another quetion. He was obviously a coward. And if he didn't do his job of finding the waterbender he would be branded a traitor. He had no choice but to kill Katara's mother because he works for someone even more evil.

To put is simply he wasn't worth it. Someone like Azula or Firelord Ozai, maybe, but a coward like that man was beneath her.

There wasn't enough time for an episode to deal with the negative ramifications of taking a human life based solely on revenge.

Fact is he's an old man who's forced to take care of his mother, his life isn't even worth taking. And besides what exactly positive things would his death cause?

Justice would be served for the crimes he committed in the past. Plus, I would've gotten a good laugh out of it.

    That isn't justice, it's vengeance.
