Bending is based on martial arts so get that straight watch the movements of the benders they mimic martial artists You right you can practice all your life a be good, but can you give me an example of a 14 year old in the nba, most people practice basketball and watch others play any of the great nba players watched and mimic other basketball players movements they learned for example. Where was katara example, you can practice by yourself all you want but with out test your abilities against others and learning from your experince you'll suck, And no she is not a prodigy because prodigy show great potention as a child katara could barley move the water when we met her so she is not a prodigy

You're getting off-track. No, she is not a prodigy, but she is exceptionally talented. It was not unrealistic how quickly she learned! She had practiced her WHOLE life, but you said it yourself: you won't be good until you can test your abilities against others. When she got to the North Pole she finally got that chance and combined it with her fourteen years of practicing, in combination with her great mental drive gotten from her being unique, the only waterbender in the entire South Pole, resulting in great talent unlocked. In the time between Chapters 18 and 19, Katara became a great waterbender, and when you examine her character closely, there's nothing unrealistic about it.

yea. i belived it. a bit. she did have some practice and when she fought the master in the north pole she was very challengeing. so i dont see why couldnt she develope her powers faster than others.. plus she maybe took extracuricular classes . im suprised somebody suggested she was 14. i dont remember the show ever mentioning her age

no pratice 14 years of their life if their 14, also when we first met her she could barly do anything with water, or do you guys like to forget this fact, so she couldn't improve that much in such a short time. During the scroll episode she barly managed to do it, but aang did it in his first time, but he is being trained by katara it should be the other way around

    Aang never paid attention.

Your logic that she can't improve in such a shprt time is very flawed. In my martial arts class, there were seven year olds who only joined a few weeks ago who could beat eleven-year olds in a sparring match.

I asked them how, and they said that they practised twenty-four seven. Katara already knew how to control water, she just needed to focus on her technique and increase her level of control, which isn't too hard.

Exactly what I'm talking about. Look, you guys can argue about it all you want, but I'm insisting that the creators do their job fantastically with minimal flaws.

For Pete's sake, you're watching a show with bison that fly! You're going to complain that Katara, a simple girl with great power, is unrealistic?

Katara hasn't trained for 14 years, she can't have trained when she was in diapers. All the moves, or just about all of them, that she knew were: push-and-pull-the-water, streaming the water, making a gaint wave, and the water whip. Katara had two weeks of training at the North Pole, talent, determintation, and stuff, but her skill is outrageously unrealistic. Its possible to be skilled, but she seems to good to be real or fair. She outbested all the other students, that isn't fair or possible. Well, it can be, but all of those boys who have trained for years and she beat all of them without breaking a sweat or becoming tired, yeah right. And Katara was dubbed a Waterbending Master after only two weeks of official training, **** no. There is no flipping way that is possible.

But she has trained for years, too! I admit readily, not 14 years, but years nonetheless. The studio ADMITTED that Katara was unusually good as Pakku said "You have advanced more quickly than any student I have ever trained." In my eyes, as long as the studio admits that something was unlikely, but still happened, then it is fine by me. Maybe not fine by you, but for me, I say it's realistically unrealistic, if you will. Yes it is unrealistic, but it is so in a way that is presented correctly, as something unrealistic would really happen.

Additionally, she was not dubbed a master. Pakku told Aang to call her Master Katara as in Teacher Katara, not Best-Waterbender-On-Earth Katara.

some people think that if aang hadnt gotten frozen and had dies when he was supposed to that katara would have become the next avatar (since the next element is water) she is the right age after all.. and IF that is true that might have something to do with why she learned so fast and why she gained so much power (aang the AVATAR was usually a fast learner as well)

and if that means nothing to you then maybe (i know someone said something like this a while back) katara (before the nort pole) had been practicing and had the abilities and skills but did not know how to use them properly and once she had the right training it came easily to her... but who knows maybe she is just a really good waterbender.. just because she didnt show how good she was before doesnt mean she wasnt that good to begin with and with the two weeks of practice maybe she just got even better than she already was... i mean we never saw her show her upmost best abilities and powers

thats just what i think because you guys seem to give her no credit and yell at her when she gets better at waterbending... im not a psycho crazy katara lover or anything but but i think its not that unrealistic that she got that good in that amount of time... it was two weeks not two days as you guys are seeming to put it as....

That entire 'Katara could have been the next Avatar' thing is stupid. Even if Katara would have been the next Avatar, doesn't mean it would still affect her bending. And I still say that Katara suddenly becoming so strong that she defeated every other student of Pakku's who trained for years is still dumb. There's no point for her to be so ridiculously strong anyway. Look at all the trouble her strength has caused amongst fans.

It has caused no trouble for any of my friends who watch Avatar, boy or girl. I say if the fan doesn't like it, it's his or her fault for the way they inferred it. I certainly haven't found her strength to the point of ridicule.
