Personally i feel katara is not a useful character, neither is soka for that matter. I feel they both hold too much of a grudge against the fire nation to really understand the avatar. The reason i don't like katara is because they hyped her up, and pumped up her powers to show she is better then the avatar at something which she shouldn't be. Another thing is a lot of people say the katara keeps aang in check, i have only two instances where she was need and if she wasn't there wouldn't of ended badly for aang anyway, katara didn't teach aang to waterbend so why is she needed and soka is just there for comic relief. Also katara is a master of waterbending after a month how is that possible aang is only able to do with air after years of practice, but a master in a month you can get better in a month but you can't master it. If aang did this ok, but seeing how he didn't and it showed earlier he was a faster learner then katara why should she have, just to show girls are as good as boys. I really hope katara dies at the end of the third season, because aang and toph, appa or just aang and appa would have made it just fine, and don't reference that blue spirit episode of what would happen if he would be by himself the only reason he was in that predictment was because he was getting frogs for soka and katara, if they weren't there no blue spirit and he would still have appa. Also katara and soka don't seem that helpful too me, they seem to get in the way more then help, but they have helped aang sometimes just they do more harm then good

So you're saying to get rid of Katara purely for the sake of an unrealistic ship?

In a way, I think that is sorta true, Sokka really is just there for comic relief, but I think Katara is sorta needed, since she does teach Aang waterbending once in a while, Like in the episode Bitter Work. Also, I really agree with the Katara being a master thing, I always thought the makers rushed and said she was a master, when really, she didnt eben have that much training IMO. Even though I know that alot people are going to disagree with me on this....but w/e this is just what I think.

I totally agree with you, but Katara is the motherly figure, or at least she was until she became the bossy, perfect, teenage girl that grates my nerves. You're totally right about the master thing, and even though I think Katara does little to advance the plot anymore, she needs to stay. Sokka has taken way too much abuse as the comic relief. That should be Momo. Sokka has true potential, but his role as comic relief makes him seem more of a sidekick.

It is not unrealistic, it could happen, I said Katara and Aang is about 70%, Toph and Aang is about 30%. That is giving Katara and Aang more % than they should get because they are NOT together, and NEVER had anything like a date.

Where did the percents come from? Toph and Aang havn't even been cordial to each other, let alone go on a date, so Katara and Aang do deserve more, wherever the percents came from. But, I have a clean record as far as shipping battles go, so I'm not going to start one

70% is too much, you say? So

"Why are you smiling at me like that?" "Oh, I was smiling?"

    The Fortuneteller

    The Cave of Two Lovers

and the ending to The Desert,

the clear portraits of Aang's affection for Katara in these points are pure coincedences? The creators have NEVER hinted Toph/Aang in my opinion. 70% is not enough! So what if they're not dating? They're 12 and 14, what do you expect, marriage?

Why is this turning into a shipping war?

Katara did turn into a "master" waterbender fairly quickly. It's a little disappointing to see that, as you cannot become a real master until you have practiced an element for years. And to see Nick even put on a commercial stating Aang has mastered Earthbending when he JUST STARTED AND WAS ONLY ABLE TO DO ONE MOVE was heart-wrenching. But I'm getting off-topic. It would be quite boring just watching Aang travel the world by himself. So that's why Katara and Sokka are there.
