I sure HOPE it's not about shippings. But I knew I had to put shipping in the title if anyone was going to read this. Nobody visited my Momo thread . . . *sniff*
| Thats not true. I would of came here if it was titled "Jessie Flower". I personally don't follow shippings. | What he said. |
"Anyone" was hyperbole. I know people would read it if it was simply titled "Jessie Flower." However, I strongly suspect that MORE people will read it because of the title . . .
Anyway . . . moving on.
The show is, as someone said, an action adventure. It is therefore first and foremost about . . . high-flying action, comedy, mythology, and characterization. Part of that characterization includes relationships . . . family relationships (LOTS of that), friendships (some of that), and romantic relationships (some of that).
Yeah, I'm glad the show doesn't follow the "fan-elected matchmaking," or however one of you put it.

First of all, i'm a BIG fan of Jessie Flower as i'm sure most of you are.?? Secondly, shipping to stories IMO is like spices is to cooking.?? Alittle of it here and there greatly adds to the flavour, but too much ruins the whole thing.?? Without it though, the final result will be bland and boring.??
That's the problem of almost ALL american cartoons, and what nick is slowly realizing.?? True, the show IS catered for children but that didn't stop the Japanese animators from sometimes including complicated relationships to their stories, with significant success, considering Anime is popular to both young AND adults worldwide.
That's because constantly showing just a bunch of people fighting episode after episode will get boring.?? Its when you start to like the character and empathize with them that the story can progress to become something worth looking forward to.
And you can only start empathizing with them one you see yourself in one or more of the characters of the stories.?? And that can only happen when they go through the same problems and situations (more or less) that you go through, like making the wrong decisions, getting misunderstood for doing what you considered the right thing, having problems with friends or women or for women men, etc.
In short, shipping (and i mean relationships as a whole and not just boy/girl relationships) as long as tastefully done, adds a human element to the story that endears it to the fans.

Well said! That's so true! I mean...normally, you like a character more if you can relate to them, right? So it would make sense that if a character likes someone else, you'd be more attached to a character, because liking someone else is a relatable thing...and fighting every minute of your life probably wouldn't be very relatable to most people.... Ummm...so yeah....the part that really got my imagination going was when they asked her what she would change about Toph...
"I would make Toph's hair brown instead of black, her dress would be dark brown and her apron would be neon green, and she would keep her hair in a ponytail instead of a bun. Also, I think Earthbending should include trees, flowers and other plants."
Every little detail she said transformed Toph in my mind, step by step....let me tell ya'....the result is certainly.........different, but in a good way I suppose....
