Well come on, she can't stay angry at Zuko forever, because then the situation would be like this:

Katara: Thanks Zuko for teaching Aang firebending and helping him defeat the firelord along with us!... But I still hate you.

    Zuko: WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!

Yeah, pretty much. Anyways I think there are three ways he could gain her trust:

    1. Not harm Aang or be in the wrong place at the wrong time for 5 episodes.

    2. He could save Aang's life or another person's life in the group.

    3. (This techniacly falls under the category of theory #2) He could save Katara's life.

What would really gain her trust is saving her life. Because without her in the way then Zuko wouldn't have to worry about "taking a step backwards" in Katara's point of view. So theory #3 is my best bet.

i believe Zuko could save her life, as a set-up to make us believe that zutara could actually happen but of course kataang will happen in the end

    1. In the cave, he techniacly didn't betray her. He didn't promise here anything if you look closely at the episode. He didn't say "I'm going to join your group when you heal my scar, and I will never attack you again."
    2. I don't unserstand why they didn't trust him, the only thing he has done is attack them. Besides he is nice to his prisoners.
    3. He was never EVIL, and no duh he is never going to betray them because he stood up to his father about it. Trust me, he's not going back.
    4. He lies to the bad guys, not the good guys.

Yeah, Zuko is awesome, he's my favorite character. Also, a lot of kiss scenes are when a person is trying to apologize to another person about something *hint hint*.

PS: I didn't read this entire thread so don't attack me for things that I may have reiterated.

there are so many things wrong with that. you should try looking at it from the gaang's point of view. would you trust someone that invaded your town and followed you around the world trying to capture the world's last hope for peace? would you think he was evil? of course you would. the gaang never knew about the conflict zuko's been through

My gosh. Did you pay attention to "Nightmares and Daydreams"? Aang said himself that they should treat everyone with like they are capable of great good and kindness. Also, remember when Toph said that they are just letting their hurt feelings get in the way of their judgement?

PS: What really annoyed me is when they said "Well you weren't there when he..." yadayadayada. That was Toph's point! They were only strengthening her arguement!

Since I have'nt answered your real question yet I will do so now. Yes, I would trust them if they never lied to me before (Zuko never lied to them). I also believe in forgiveness and second chances. Those are traits that Aang should've already developed since he is the Avatar.

well he kinda already got his second chance when aang saved him in "the blue spirit" and also in "seige of the north part 2". and look at katara's point of view in "crossroads". he DID talk about his mother and express strong emotion, but when the time came, he decided to attack aang and katara. why would you trust someone like that? just because they never lied to you isn't a good reason at all. there are people at my school that never lied to me before, but they're complete jerks. that's basically what zuko was to the gaang.

I'm still waiting for The Duke and his past to play some role in at least a B plot in a future episode. Now that I think of it, maybe Teo's technological experience from his dad will play some role in a future story. And Haru's war experience could place him in an upcoming plot point.

I think she will go into his room, while he's away, and she will search for something he could possibly hide to Aang, then she will find a picture of Ursa. (just a thought)

That sounds reasonable. You know he has a picture of his Uncle as well. We was about to set it down when Katara came in and threatened him. I think it'll be something along the lines of one of the other group members getting through to her that she has to let pasts go, and focus on the present, the fact that Zuko is there, and helping Aang defeat his own father.

Alright, we know something is going to happen later, she's not going to stay ing the same state of hatred until s/he dies.

Ok, but we know when all is said and done, if Katara and Zuko ever form any hint of a relationship, Aang will be all over Zuko to lay off. If they go even further than that, say a hug or a kiss, Zuko can kiss his helping the Avatar days goodbye.

Anyway, it's obviously going to end up Kataru. Katara loves Aang like a mother, but she likes Haru in a different way. Didn't you see the way she reacted when she saw Haru get off the boat during the invasion? Katara seems to have a liking for older men. Also remember Aunt Wu's prediction - he will be a strong bender. Haru's a realy good earthbender (although still not as good as Toph).

Also, what's really funny and awkward is that Zuko actualy says "Zuko here! ..." When confronting the Gaang. I would've thought he would only have said that while practicing. And besides, don't you notice that Zuko sounds a lot more like Jake Long (Zuko's voice actor's other character) than usual? I don't know, it just didn't seem like the normal Zuko voice - could it be his new good person voice?

It also seems that the writers or the creators or somebody didn't want to have to bring Haru, the Duke, or Teo along, but rather only brought them along just because of logistics - they know it would have been wrong to let the children (if you can call Haru one) become prisoners.

    She ignored Haru in WAT

Yeah, Katara was crazy in that episode. I seriously thought she would be a bit lighter on him but she was the one going berserk. I love Toph now. I hope she never dies.

I agree on the last part. When they get to the Western Air Temple they start playing around. Umm HELLO! you just came out of a battle and your fathers/friends are prisoners. WHy are they playing around? I would think they they'd be a bit more depressed.

And they didn't do anything in the episode. Seemed they were just a filler in for that day. *.*

well he kinda already got his second chance when aang saved him in "the blue spirit" and also in "seige of the north part 2". and look at katara's point of view in "crossroads". he DID talk about his mother and express strong emotion, but when the time came, he decided to attack aang and katara. why would you trust someone like that? just because they never lied to you isn't a good reason at all. there are people at my school that never lied to me before, but they're complete jerks. that's basically what zuko was to the gaang.
He never offered up his postition to their group in those episodes so your arguement is useless, I never said that he wasn't mean to them. I said he has never lied to them or has been dishonest to them except for maybe one time "techniacly."

you don't have to tell someone something directly to show them you mean something. you seem to lack the ability to put yourself in someone else's shoes. zuko showed katara compassion, he told her about his mother, he let her touch his scar. it's just spewing with implications that he's changed for the better, and obviously, that's what katara thought too. it turns out, she was "tricked".

and i just said- you don't have to lie to someone to show them you can't be trusted. zuko tried to capture aang on countless accounts, and suddenly he wants to join them? why wouldn't they be reluctant to let him join? it could have all been another trap

Well you clearly don't know how to solve problems for other people. I'm just saying that they were contradicting themselves a lot.

    no, they really weren't

    Wrong.

Even if she will, which she won't, it's unhealthy for your mind to hold aggression for that long.

You should've known what I was saying.
I disagree. I don't know that she'll always be as deafeningly angry as she was at the end of WAT, but I'm pretty certain she'll always hold a grudge.

Betrayal is the hardest impression to erase.

If it was real life, then yes. I would agree with you. But this is a cartoon show,I don't think the animators would put so much energy and time in Katara being angry. She's been plenty angry at Toph but she shows no grudge against her for anything. It's just a start andI think, soon, everyone will become a lot less hateful of Zuko. Even Katara.

She didn't threaten to kill Toph.

Toph also didn't help kill Aang. Or try to hunt them down. Or send an assissin after them. Or kidnap Aang. Or betray Iroh to Azula. Or kidnap Katara. Or steal Katara's necklace. Or help take down Ba Sing Se. Or betray Katara's trust in the caves.

    But he's good now! *cough*again*cough*

[makes head spin] Either way, she's still going to get used to him, one way or another.
