i'm fourteen. my entire family knows to buzz off every friday night at seven. i've tried to get my friends into it, but they also seem to think it's a kid's show. i don't think so. there are disappearances, genocide, the whole zuko-unfortunate-agni-kai thing, and some other stuff that probably would never appeal to a whole lot of 6-11 year olds, especially since the youngest main character is thirteen now.

Here's the thing with people that say that Avatar is a children's show and is for people who are immature: ask them what they watch on tv, and they will often tell you they watch shows like the OC and the crap that MTV produces, or some random unreality tv show. Now who's immature?

I don't hide the fact that I like Avatar. I don't go advertising it, but i'm not afraid to mention it if the right topic comes along. In fact, I would prefer it that the public mocks the older Avatar viewers. It just means that we are more mature, and therefore, better than them. We should be happy that we like a show that's not mainstream with just sex and random violence on it. That in itself is a sign of maturity, and it's nothing to be ashamed of. Unless, of course, you are ashamed of being mature, lol.

Yes, another college student who is an Avatar-fan! I agree, MTV has the most crappiest shows. I'd watch Avatar over Laguna Beach anyday.

Eh, there are more like us than you would think, probably around 20, lol. I don't really have much time to sit down and watch tv, but when i do, it's usually something baseball or football, House, Monk, South Park, the History Channel, and of course some random cartoons like Avatar! Going to school and working full time does that for you.

I'm 18 and I've never seen a full episode, but I do know it's a little too kiddy for my tastes. The action looks nice but the lessons inbetween can't hold my interest. If Adult Swim had produced this show instead, then maybe it would be better.

I like the lessons. I wouldn't be watching it if it were predominantly action. It's not as if our history and the history of the series branch off at some well-defined time/era/age. We can't strictly rely on our own science, history, and mythology to tell the story of Avatar: The Last Airbender; the story needs to fill us in, so to e-speak, to allow us to understand and care for the story they wish to tell.

Yeah, a job well done mellowmuse. I try to get my family to like the show but??they weren't??interested except for my little sister.

Proud mama ?? (Not just for Avatar-fanness!)

BTW My forty-something hubby is a csort of closet Avatar fan.?? He never watches the new episodes when they first air, would never voluntarily pop in a tape himself, but he almost always comes in and sits down whenever "mama & son" are watching the videotapes.?? Then, of course, I have to fill him in on what he's missed.??

We've got to put that way of thinking behind us. If a show is good and you like it, then enjoy it! Forget about what age group it's target for. Remember that all these shows are written and directed by ADULTS! If they can create it, why can't they watch it?

some people dont like nickelodeon so they dont watch the show, i dont like nick as well but this show is amazing. im 14 and ill continue to love this show. hey, the creators of this show are part of the Family Guy, Futurama, Simpsons and South Park family, got nothin to be embarrased about.

this show is really complex, and 6 years dont get it. im proud of the mothers and fathers who watch this show with their kids. they should bump this show's age group to 12-40+

the lil kids who watch it prolly like it becuz of all the "ccooool! fire bammy! bending wow!!! smashing rocks Yeaaa!" yea, the show is way more than that. its a mixed advent of tragedy, art, symbolism, heroism, love, death, war, [political] relationship, friend ship, caligraphy, spiritual values??and lots more

You are? Cool! ^_^ Well I'm 23 and I watch Avatar. Okay long rant (well...not that long and it's a little off-topic): There are many folks feel that watching cartoons is a sign of immaturity. Well, I know folks my age and older that don't even watch cartoons and yet, they have the maturity of a 5 year-old. You see, just because a person (whether 12 or 43) watches cartoons, it doesn't really make that person any less mature than a person who doesn't. I have the ability to separate fantasy from reality (and I assume everyone else here does too). Since when should watching cartoon determine the maturity level of a person?

THANKYOU. God, I wish I could memorize that so I can tell people off when they start ragging on me about being into animation. I plan on making it my CAREER, dangit! *shakes fist*

And I honestly can't see a six-year old understand the show's diverse plot.....

You have to realize that the story is told on many different levels. It appeals to very young kids because of the action. It appeals to teens and young adults because of the romance and emotion. And finally it appeals to adults because of the deep story and the emphasis on spiritualism.

This is true. But there's also shades of gray, even when you look at it like that. I'm 14 (going on 15 soon), and I could care less about the romance. Just give me the deep story and action, please

Little hint here? Avatar is just as good as any (serious) adult swim show, just minus the language and blood. And trust me, I know; I'm a die-hard Wolf's Rain fan.

And PS? Adult Swim doesn't actually produce most of those shows. They just show em'.
