You are? Cool! ^_^ Well I'm 23 and I watch Avatar. Okay long rant (well...not that long and it's a little off-topic): There are many folks feel that watching cartoons is a sign of immaturity. Well, I know folks my age and older that don't even watch cartoons and yet, they have the maturity of a 5 year-old. You see, just because a person (whether 12 or 43) watches cartoons, it doesn't really make that person any less mature than a person who doesn't. I have the ability to separate fantasy from reality (and I assume everyone else here does too). Since when should watching cartoon determine the maturity level of a person? |

*claps* Well said! ...But I do have a problem admitting that I like cartoons because of that view. Oh well, that's what online forums are for! XP |

Hello, I just signed up to this forum explicitly to respond to this.?? I wanted to share a quote that addresses this question in a way that best illustrates my own philosophy.
"Critics who treat "adult" as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adults themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence....When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."??
~ C. S. Lewis
I'm 28 years old.?? When the workweek ends and Friday finally arrives I look forward to getting my paycheck, relaxing on the weekend...and watching Avatar (along with some other animated programs).?? There is no such thing as being too old to enjoy a good story.?? That's a kid's excuse.

Hi?? MCMLXVI!?? Good to meet you electronically, and know that another 40-something is out there!?? I hope you have a great b-day, and look forward to dialoging with you electronically.
For those of you who watch, and your friends/relatives claim that it is "immature" to watch this program, then I offer my example for you to point to.?? I have three separate college degrees (geology, chemistry, and biochemistry), and I run a successful consulting firm.?? Frankly, I think I qualify as mature.
The Avatar is a complex, animated adventure epic. Those who watch it have to have intelligence, insight and creativity to watch and appreciate the series.?? Avatar requires a good memory and an eye for detail to watch and enjoy (because it is not encapsulated into one 11-minute salvo -- like Sponge Bob and Jimmy Neutron).
Therefore, I say that it is the uncool and ignorant that do not appreciate Avatar (especially if they comment on your enjoyment of it without having seen an episode for themselves).?? Personally, I have been amazed at the creativity and artwork displayed in this forum by its young posters.?? It gives me good hope for the future success of the next generation.
So, have good hope my fellow Avatar friends.?? The kids who tease you about being an Avatar friend will be working for you one day.

I'm 18, my brother is 15 and we both watch and love the show. Ages 6-11? That seems too young to really understand the plot. I would think ages 10 and up are more accurate in terms of fully understanding whats going on, rather than just watching the action alone. I can't see a 6 year old really understanding that. |

My son is 4 1/2, and understands the majority of the show.?? I think "Avatar" is rather like "Harry Potter" -- it demonstrates that good stories told well, and which engage the intellect and imagination, have an extremely broad appeal.??I
