Although its a shame (because I liked KAtaang) IT can't happen. As someone already said he has to let Katara go in order to unlock the Avatar state. Which he will need to do to defeat the fire Lord. The way things look now, Its Zutara.

He just has to forget Katara while going in to the avatar state so he can control his emotions and won't destory his friends. While he isn't in the avatar state he's free to love all he wants. Avatar Roku did marry the girl he loved.

One thing doesn't make sense though. How could Roku have had a wife if he had to give up love?

To be honest, I do think that Katara has feelings for Aang. I mean, what's the point of all the mushy scenes throughout the series if nothing happens? Katara has kissed Aang several times throughout the Water and Earth books, so I see no reason for them not to be together. Sure, I'm a Kataang supporter, but that doesn't mean the logic isn't somewhat accurate.

PS. I clicked that "no click" link, and I did it a second time because it told me not to

Whatever you like. But Kataang seems toooo mushy. OK, yes, Kataang pretty much is the DNA of the whole friggin thing but Aang knows he's going to let her go. Look, when he unlocks his 7th shakra, he must let her go, in order for the Avatar Spirit. But, for now, you can believe in what you believe *shrug*

Aang cannot access the avatar state anymore. Even if he tried, he can't, which means there's no point in letting Katara go anymore. It says so in the "Escape from the Spirit World" online comics. Avatar Yangchen tells Aang that his connection with the avatar state has been severed. He also mentioned it in The Day of Black Sun.
Toph: So how are you going to take out the Fire Lord? Going to hit him with some avatar state action? Aang: I can't... When Azula shot me with lightning, my seventh chakra was locked, cutting me off from all the cosmic energy in the universe.
I didn't understand it like that. I thought he had to have no wordly attachments to be in harmony to access the state.

Because Roku isn't in the avatar state 24/7. You only need to forget attachments while in the avatar state.

Anyone who didn't want to see any Day of Black Sun spoilers there, I'm sorry. I'm not entirely sure how to insert a spoiler where you have to click to see it.

forgetting one's wordly attachments while reaching for the avatar state IS DIFFERENT from giving up wordly attachments for life

Well the way I came to understand it, attachment and love are different. He doesn't have to give up his love for Katara, but he has to be willing to let her go to control his emotions. It's a big difference... sort of.

Also keep in mind what Avatar Roku said to Aang in 306. "Being the Avatar doesn't hurt your chances with the ladies either." Considering it's a kids show and Kataang has been foreshadowed throughout the entire show... I doubt all the mushy scenes would be there for nothing. I mean, Katara has kissed Aang a bunch of times.

Because he's only 12 and doesn't understand anything about the avatar state that's why people were told they are the avatar at 16 so they could handle it like aang obviously can't

    Just remember that Avatar isn't a Drama or a Soap Opera, it's a Y-7 Animated action/adventure show.

Interesting then that the scene immediately following the confession and kiss is a scene of Zuko at Mai's house. He looks around at all the fond memories, and, so incredibly sad to leave the girl he cares for so incredibly much and who loves him right back, says he's sorry and puts the note on her bed. This after a lengthy letter-writing scene.

(And by the way, remember when Aang said "I'm sorry, Katara" in "Crossroads of Destiny?")

Interesting that Aang's romantic storyline is juxtaposed with Zuko's.

he didnt have to COMPLETELY let go of her, just not have her as the main aspect of his life. Therefore,

    1.Being the avatar

    2.Katara

So, he cant control his attachment to the world, but its not only about his love to Katara, but also his friends, appa and momo. The first obstacle Roku had, was to leave any objects in the fire nation. thats why he had to travel without anything, he could learn to leave his attachment during all his training. For Aang, its dfferent, thats why I think he wont be able to do it (until the end), Its gonna be a battle of the 4 elements, Aang, Zuko, Katara and Toph.

    Exactly in roku's words

"When love is real, it finds a way" Directing to Aang and Katara.

Roku- love is hard when you're young

Aang- You don't have to telll me

Roku- Don't worry it gets better.
