That's one way to look at it (which I don't agree with but that's beside the point).

Did you see Katara's expressions in the Headband? I'm not sure where people come up with this "She's more of a mother to him" stuff. I'm motherly to my friends AND my boyfriend. Also considering Katara's attitude towards Zuko, she's mad at him for messing with the people that she loves. I'm like that too when my friends tell me about people who do them wrong. Katara's just the person who is very compassionate to the people she cares about. And isn't that the best kind of love?

Gangsta version: Katara: ufck with Aang and I'll kill yo ass! (Anyone get the joke with the first word? You know how rap songs be edited with the words sounding scrambled like that?) |
Those edited songs are fun to laugh at.
For the love of god... Its a goddamn TV show. All the detailed explanations of "In (insert time here) she leaned in", or "In (insert time here) She blinks rapidly", are sickening. This isn't real life. Its a TV show and your all too darned addicted or sucked out of real life to get lost in fantasy world.
However, if you ask me for my view, im a kataang guy and though im not objectionable to zutara, I find it less favorable. When i first heard of Zutara, trust me, it was random. Didn't see it coming, didn't expect it to even exist. This whole relationship seemed implausible, and not up for debate, but since it got 1000+ threads, i might as well write about it.
The idea that Aang loves Katara is proven fact. It was repeated multiple times throughout the series. For anyone who says that "its just a kiddie crush", like i said. ITS A TV SHOW FOR KIDS. Romance is a major part of kiddie shows, and its going to be cliche, like it or not. Main guy and main girl hook up, they live happily ever after. Even if it were more mature, then the story line would go: he had a crush, some conflict, got over it, went out with another girl, conflict, conflict, conflict, HOOKS UP WITH ORIGINAL CRUSH BECAUSE IT WAS MEANT TO BE FROM THE START. Its gonna end cliche.
Secondly, two and a half seasons of Kataang wont be thrown out the window. Trust me. 50+ episodes aren't going to waste because Katara and Zuko look good together. Its too much of a waste and the creators won't risk losing the majority of the viewers, i.e. kataang shippers.
As for the Zutarian argument that Aang is too young, I don't think it matters. I'm disturbed by this point too because i an old fashioned and i like the guy to be older than the girl. Nonetheless, the world is changing and younger guy hooks up with older girl isn't much of a problem anymore. The writers, probably aware of that, adjust the story so that the plot is layed out with archetypes mixing with the ever changing morals of society. Hence, the motherly figure and the playful boy who is dependant on motherly figure. Besides, when their in their later 20's a slight age difference (never mind one of just two years), won't matter much.
Next, for those who say that Katara doesn't love Aang, in the Headband she was jealous of Aang know name) and earlier on, when they went to the woman warrior island, she was jealous at Aangs affiliation with other girls. Although she may not have started with a romantic view of him, she definitely has some feelings now. Besides, if she doesn't love Aang, there is no chance that she should like Zuko.
Next, for those saying that Aang is a monk, MONKS CAN BE IN RELATIONSHIPS. At least, in the Avatar world, i think all the monks are airbenders, and all airbenders are monks. If they cant be in relationships, that means that the entire monk population was created by other people. Highly unlikely, even for a small population. The creators want simplicity for comprehension, so its probably that monks can be in relationships. Furthermore, If Aang doesn't have a child, he truly is the last airbender. This means the avatar chain is broken, putting waste to ideologies such as 'Keeping the avatar alive for balance in the world'.
Besides, zutara has nothing as biased to kataang. Katara has pity on Zuko for 5 minutes and its like their relationshp is meant to be. Sure they have a lot in common and Katara, being the girl that she is, pities Zuko. BUT, in a similar context, Katara could understand how Jet felt, and Katara could understand how Aang felt, to lose the one they loved. Katara and Aang, has a much deeper relationship than that. It slowly developed from her caring for a poor kid in an iceberg who was oblivious for the war, to a realization that he was a great guy who would never let her down.
Finally, zutara means that everything developed thus far would come to ruins. Like i said, this is a kids show. They keep it simple, no changing everything worked on thus far at the very end so that some people could be happy. It might happen but, hell, be realistic.
(BTW, I just got sucked into this because I looked up book 3 chp 9, BAD MISTAKE)
